I had the very good fortune of seeing a performance of Dame Edna in San Francisco a number of years ago. We were cautioned not to get seats too close to the stage or you could end up on it as part of her act. Because the performance was sold out we couldn’t sit next to the other couple we came with and they had seats near the stage. Sure enough, our friend was called up by Dame Edna and I guarantee it was a night that poor fellow will never forget. We almost fell out of seats with laughter at his misfortune. She is such a fantastic talent.

Took my sister Laura to see her at The Shubert in Century City/Los Angeles. She has an energy in person. No other I've known can make you laugh uncontrollably with just simple jokes or expressions. It's a true phenomena! And so contagious throughout the audience. You, along with everyone, just keep shaking with laughter. Wish I could see her again!!!

I'm thinking of many many years ago when I and a mate of mine sat in an audience at a London theatre and dreaded that she would pick on one of us, and, I tell you, absolutely wept with laughter. Edna is a genius.

I had the misfortune of being dragged up on stage by Edna during Barry's farewell tour of the U.K. and "married" to another audience member! The perils of being on the front row at a Barry Humphries show ! It was hilarious and glad I got to meet him as Edna and have a photo to prove it! Relieved it wasn't during the Les Patterson sketch as my friend got spat on by him without leaving his seat!!!

I once purchased a ticket for "Back With a Vengence" at the Palais Theatre in St Kilda, Melbourne. When I asked for a front-row seat the ticket seller warned me, stating that either Dame Edna would select me to appear as a guest on 'Chit-chat with Edna' or I would cop any amount of spittle from Sir Les. Loved the shop. Dame Edna will always be an icon.

It's interesting because there's the exact SAME ROUTINE that she does for the Canadian comedy program 'Just for Laughs' at that same Montreal comedy tour (same costume even) in 2005 and she does the same jokes with an old woman named OLIVE. So it was nice to see the same material used on a different person. The other video is posted by the account: Firenzeta here on KZfaq.

The other rendition of this routine is much better with Olive. Edna seems uncharacteristically hesitant at times during this performance. I wonder why the "Guinness book of records" joke she was about to make was discarded. She attempts to start it twice and then decides against it. The other version for comparison: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j7xmhJeCntuVoIk.html

Not her best performance. I think she needs others to bounce off. Michael Parkinson, Dame Edna, Sharon Osbourne and Helen Mirren in 2004 was a root.

@aussiegirl35852 жыл бұрын
Dame Edna always singled out an audience member. Inevitably, someone in the first two rows. It was part of her performance act. If you knew this, you would try to seat yourself far away from those first two rows. Otherwise, you were fair game. 😂

Doesn’t sound remotely English to brits or aussies, yanks have no ear for accents. Also Edna’s an Aussie character from a particular place, why would the creator have her accent? He lived in England most his life.

People may say that she is legend but for me nah her voice itself is so annoying and irritating . She goes to stage and says one word and people laugh just because she has comedic name and status but makes no sense . There are other drags who are far far better and more character than her .
@Grmario856 жыл бұрын
Honey her jokes make perfect sense. They are just a bit more indirect and elegant. No offence, i do have a friend that does not get her jokes. He is a footballer...if you get my drift.
