Vera Lynn

Күн бұрын

To mark the sad occasion of the funeral of Dame Vera Lynn this week, a special video was created showing the lyrics to her most famous song, We’ll Meet Again, and was projected onto the White Cliffs of Dover, the landmark most famously associated with her.
“I feel very honoured to have my mother's image on the White Cliffs of Dover, which is so closely associated with her, and I know that she would definitely feel the same.”
- Dame Vera Lynn’s daughter, Virginia Lewis-Jones

@@Yurar__ More of a euphemism. A euphemism is a word used in place of another word to tone down a harsh word. In the original comment, "see her old friends again" is a euphemism for "die".

We'll Miss You Vera Lynn... I may have never had the honor of meeting her, and my closest connection to ww2 was my grandpa who I also never got to meet, but there was always something so beautiful yet haunting about this song. Haunting may not be the right word, but whenever I hear it, I think of a generation, the greatest generation, one that is arguably one of the biggest reasons any of us enjoy the comforts and freedom that we do today. I could talk all day about this, but i'll keep it short. This. This is a lovely lovely song. A song that I've never stopped listening to since the first time I heard it many years ago. And I never plan to ever stop. There may only be a few of the greatest generation around today, but there will never be a few alive in our hearts. They will live on, through stories like the ones I've heard of my grandpa, and also through amazing songs like these. Thank you Vera Lynn, and thank you to the greatest generation.

A song that reflects the indomitable spirit of the British in the face of the darkest trials. It's the light at the end of the tunnel. It's spirit never fades away, for humanity was meant to survive and live. Death is not for us. We are predestined to immortality.

This song was played at my nan's funeral. She used to watch the blitz on ports down hill in Portsmouth, lighting up the night sky. Portsmouth was completely flattened. Her dad was forced to go into a bunker which he refused to go in, and it was blown up with a direct bomb. Things were terrible back then, but the people were strong. This song kinda represents that. She loved this song and so do I.

Hitler made several underestimates He underestimated the will of The British People He underestimated the Russian's will He declared war on The US And finally he blew his own brains out when the game was up History will remember him as we do. A failure and a coward

PF was actually what made me discover this beautiful song years ago. That and Dr. Strangelove. Two of my favorite things. It was no coincidence, this song is a masterpiece. Almost nothing ever makes me cry. But dammit, I tear up almost every time I hear it. The reference in the Wall exposes the haunting nature of the song. Almost like it was an empty promise. Or maybe she meant something deeper and Pink is too cynical to see it.
