Don't agree. It just gives the players another avenue to fluff around and waste time. This happens where the grounds do have a screen showing the time. It's an easy fix. The player knows (or should know if they are playing rugby at professional level) the time starts from the point they (or the captain) indicate their intention to kick for goal. The referee then gives a verbal signal that there is 30secs (meaning 30 secs left) or make it 20sec if you like but it has to be only one. Then the referee should shut up. It is then up to the goal kicker to manage from that point.

Dmac was phenomenal under the high ball tonight and all round played fantastic. A shame about the shot clock but whatever, that’s the rules. Keep smiling Dmac, don’t listen to the haters!

Excellent under the high kick but his kicking in general play was abysmal and was sorely needed for field position as the All Blacks forwards failed to punch it up to release the back line. His carries were brave but he needs to run into space more or he's going to take a beating.

What a refreshing and measured approach to accountability. ''It's on my shoulders'' ''It's on me to fix it '' ''Those are the rules'' . Even as a Wallaby fan I have to applaud his outstanding awareness and acceptance of personal responsibility. True leadership right there. Fwiw Damian - You get 60 seconds from the time you tell the referee whether you are kicking for goal or the touchline. Not from when he blows his whistle.

I believe it is a shame that the talk about D-Mac after that game is all about that kick. He did a lot of good stuff and the way he passes, the timing of his passing and how he puts people into space with his flat passing goes unnoticed. He played a hell of a game and I choose that to be the highlight for me.

I have to admit, you do take your time with your kicks & I always am saying to myself, hurry up man. This time you got pinged. Yes a screen clock should be standard. Like you say, counting it down in your head isn't the one when you a focused on the kick. Thank god for that win. One point....

I hope Perofeta get his oppertunity at 10 soon. After that Razor will forget about RM. The running game was a bit predictable tonight. Barret steadied the ship at 10 2nd half with his tactical kicking which was absent the first 40. This is a smart coaching group and i belief they will recognize their over ambitious gameplan for the first 40. Thats something this group must grow into over a few games.

Referees in SR let kickers know they have 20 sec left and sometimes 10. IDK about test matches but would be good if refs just let the kicker know while he's concentrating on the kick. Good game DM

Yes a shot clock would be great for all internationals we have big screens for everything else...if not teams have to get someone to keep the time for the goal kicker why not the person taking the kicking tee to them?

Yeah I just rewatched it, Ref gave him the 20sec warning then the 10sec warning, Dmac moved into his kick just after the 1min was up.

the time starts from the time it is indicated to the referee their intention to kick for goal. law 8.21.

It's a fair point. The last time these two teams played Barrett kicked a field goal at 70min under a penalty advantage. If only that kick had missed ....would Eng have been able to rally as they did. Probably not.

Here's the thing. The referees should not be warning any kicker. It should be a set in stone process consistent throughout the rugby world. They are not the players baby sitter. Decide what the process is and be done with it. If the kicker does not comply the kicker doesn't get to attempt the kick.

It’s part of his mental routine and preparation. All kickers/high performance athletes have some form of routine or action they do. It’s sport psychology. He’s acknowledging that he needs to speed up his process and that he made a mistake and he will learn from it
