You gotta remember that he was raised by the League of Assassins to be the ultimate killing machine and to realize his grandfather's ultimate goal. Bruce wanted to make him be better than that and it put them at odds and is why he almost joined the Court. By the end of the film he realizes that he wants to be good like his father and goes to the monks to figure out how. By Batman: Bad Blood we see him in a much better place. He grows more and more with each film he appeared in which is what brings us to the person he is in Batman: Hush. Him showing genuine care for his father (despite how odd it comes across in this moment) just shows how far their relationship has come since Batman vs. Robin.
