Hi Ajay. I do not use many TADS in my practice. I did not use any TADS in the cases shown on my KZfaq channel or on my website. On occasion, when I do use TADS, I use the ORMCO VectorTas TAD System.

Hello LS. Great questions! I did not use TADS for the gummy smile corrections that I've shown on this channel as of today's date. For the mild to moderate gummy smiles, I've used a combination of incisal bracket position on the maxillary incisors and accentuated Curve of Spee wires. For the moderate to severe gummy smile that I've shown, I used a combination of incisal bracket position on the maxillary incisors and a Rickett's or Mulligan intrusion arch for maximal intrusion. For severe, gummy smiles, TADS would be indicated. Skeletal-based Vertical Maxillary Excess (VME) typically requires maxillary impaction surgery. Hope that helps!

Hi Sasmi: Great question! There are 2 basic considerations regarding orthodontic wires. 1) The alloy that they are composed of, and 2) the cross-sectional diameter. More flexible alloys of smaller cross sectional diameter are used in the beginning of treatment to initiate alignment. As alignment is achieved, larger cross-sectional wires are placed with eventually stiffer alloys. These wires are generally the same for Damon Braces and conventional braces, though there are a few different sizes, and durations for the Damon System. The newer Damon Ultima Braces, however, have a unique cross-sectional shape (half round/half rectangular) compared to conventional braces that provide better engagement in the re-designed Ultima brackets. This gives orthodontists better control enabling faster treatment. Check out my other videos on Ultima Braces on the Channel for more info! Dr. B

Right now I'm got Damon braces, but I'm a little surprised because the price of changing wires when control is very different from traditional braces wires, I saw on the packaging that the wires have the "Damon" brand on them too, so at that time I thought maybe Damon's braces also have special wires that different for traditional wire.

It has been my experience that torque control with the new Damon Ultima Appliance is superior to all other fixed appliances. Establishing proper torque is important when treating incisor protrusion. Significant reduction in protrusion generally requires spacing in the arch in order to retract the teeth. If there is no space in the arch, or worse, if there is crowding along with protrusion, often extraction of teeth is necessary. Dr. B

Hi Marzooq. Everyone's teeth move at different rates, but generally by the second or third appointment you will start to see a noticeable change. The change happens gradually, so sometimes it's hard for patients to notice. Take a selfie picture of your teeth in the beginning to compare as time goes by. Also, the more severe the crowding, the more obvious the change will be. You're going to be happy with your result!

Hi Marzooq. That case has great historical significance for me. It was the first severely crowded case that I treated with the Damon System without extracting teeth nearly 20 years ago. It took 23 months to treat. I began the case in the late mixed dentition and went really slow. Dr. B

Hi Merril: Using the Damon System of low friction, low force braces we can treat cases with significant crowding without extracting teeth as you've seen in my videos, however, there are crowded cases that still require extraction. If the teeth are protruded forward excessively, or if there is thin bone surrounding the teeth, then removal of teeth are necessary. Consultation with an experienced Damon provider to assess your specific case will detect these issues. Dr. B

Hi. Yes, smiles definitely are widened after treatment with low force, low friction, Damon Passive Self-Ligation. Especially in patients with narrow smiles. The mid-face will be noticeably wider post-treatment. As for the mandible, or lower jaw, it is composed of two bones. The alveolar bone that houses the roots of the teeth "sits" on top of the basal bone of the jaw. Damon PSL widens the alveolar bone - not the underlying basal bone. The same applies for the maxilla or upper jaw. Dr. B
