What is DampRid®?
Think of DampRid® as a dehumidifier that doesn’t need electricity. It’s the convenient, all-natural way to absorb excess moisture in the air that can cause stale, musty odors, while preventing damage to your valuable possessions. DampRid®’s calcium chloride crystals absorb unhealthy moisture in the air to create and maintain the optimal humidity level in your home, storage areas, cabin, boat, car, RV or wherever moisture is a problem.
Indoor air that’s as fresh as the outdoors.
DampRid products have been providing effective moisture and odor control to homeowners throughout the country for more than 70 years. It’s cost-effective, nontoxic, all-natural and simple to use. And unlike sprays and candles, DampRid attracts and traps excess moisture to eliminate musty odors.

"All natural crystal" = Calcium chloride, just get calcium chloride to refill it, skip the middle men. Also yes, you can regenerate it by heating the "water" aka calcium chloride solution by heating it at at least 100 degree celcius.

I'm not sure, but 100 not enough to separate water from salt back verse, it needed 250 degrees Celsius.

@@bulatdavlet5141 it is, on Wikipedia. CaCl2 has multiple hydration state. Heating it to 250 is bad idea.

Don't worry, Camco makes a similar 5 lb desiccant container that you can fill will the same calcium chloride granules. I asked the same question of DampRid, but got nowhere. At least there's a decent alternative now.

If you don't mind rebuying calcium/sea salt every time, sure throw it out. Or you can save money by regenerating the calcium/sea salt ,by heating "the water=sea salt water" in the oven for 3 hrs on 250 F'. It'll turn solid again for reuse.

You need to run air purifier, clean the mold issue according to what it's attached to. If you clean up mold without purifier running mold spores can travel and attach and start in new area. Then continue running the air purifier and a dehumidifier device or calcium chloride so the issue doesn't return.

I would do a cleaning with drugstore hydrogen peroxide and let it dry. It should kill most of it. Then you can inhibit mold growth with vinegar weekly ( i spray my bathroom shower with vinegar right after I’m done showering to prevent mold growth). Do you know what the source might be?

Microwave? That doesn't sound right. Unless you have a way to vent the water vapor, it's just gonna reabsorb into the silica gel. Toaster oven is a much better way of desiccating, especially if it has a convection mode to constantly move air around.

It's just calcium chloride which is one of many naturally occuring salts in rivers and seawaters. It's not harmful for the environment. Calcium is important for marine animals to synthesise shell (calcium carbonate).
