The reason why the conceptual episodes were so heartfelt despite the wackyness is because they still tied with realistic storylines that had realistic consequences. The guys are awkward around Pierce in the 2nd paintball because he was being voted out of the group, Abed will be in real trouble if the doesn't snap out of his claymation vision, Troy has to get to the thermostat otherwise everyone dies from an infection, Jeff is having GI Joe visions because he's in a coma... The storylines themselves were engaging instead of just doing a conceptual episode for the sake of having a conceptual episode. The big exception is obviously the one with the puppets.

@@numbo655 nowhere near the same stakes as the other episodes, they were just awkward around each other, it's not exactly everyone dying from an infection
@numbo655
@numbo655 4 жыл бұрын
@@afropro5294 Nah but you're overplaying the thing with the infection. As viewers we all know they aren't all going to die from an infection, so there aren't actual stakes involved. It's just funny how over-the-top the situation is, and interesting to see how they resolve it. The puppet episode potentially had real consequences in that the relationships between the characters could have fundamentally changed.

Great project. I'm really glad the crew and cast are enjoying the Netflix hype. After so many years of literal battle to stay in the air, it feels like a vindication that Community is getting the attention it always deserved. I hope you guys try and get Megan Ganz for an episode. She was a big part of the best years of Community (S2 and S3) and is always credited in the interviews by some of the best jokes, like the Beetlejuice running gag. Get her to talk about one of her episodes (Cooperative Calligraphy being an obvious good choice). She deserves the late praise Community is getting as well.

Megan is the best. I realise she may not particular want to relive her community days since Dan Harmon was sexually harassing her during the time (something I was really disappointed to hear, but I’m glad he gave a good and sincere apology), but she was a huge part of it and deserves so much credit

Great monologues, great guests, improv, and the occasional D&D roleplay. The film "Harmontown" captures a pretty good snapshot into the behind the scenes of the podcast. It did so well on streaming that it killed Yahoo Screen. Community did well on streaming on Netflix in 2020, it was on Netflix before, it has also been (and still is) on Hulu and Amazon Prime in many countries, yet it didn't get all the hype it is getting right now until April 1st when it came back on Netflix. So... Community did pretty bad on streaming for 5 years, until it didn't anymore because of the quarandean.

The movie might be a documentary about the narrative around a really special series being too alternative and rejected and sabotaged by the industry due to the quality that wasn't understood by the companies, whilst in a context of a turmoil in which television industry couldn't and wouldn't yet dare to monetize streaming online, which meant they couldn't harvest a very large chunk of the audience that had already left television behind and watched illegally online, which downed the ratings of the show. Interesting parallel in many ways with Arrested Development.

monokhem it’s not that eccentric and pretty laymen friendly. There’s jokes that may require some basic tv/movie knowledge but they generally do a good job of explaining the context of those jokes. I believe people watch this show for the characters, not the questionably obscure references thrown in every now and then. The comment above kind of nails it on the head.
@ultimadum7785
@ultimadum7785 4 жыл бұрын
@monokhem To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

i always imagined community would find its audience some day, and i'm glad to see its time may have arrived, i wonder if 30 rock is ever getting the audience love it deserves, but at least it was recognized critic-wise, community didnt even have that going for it at the time... the term "ahead of its time" is a bit overused but in this case i think its fair to say it was, most nbc comedies of the 10s were, and that puts them in advantage for generations to come, stantard half hour comedies come and go, but show riddled with passion, work, and creativity will hardly go unnoticed for long...

Dan always makes it sound like only young women liked Jeff/Annie (because they were teenage girls who wanted to be with older men? God, no.) when most fans that I've talked, regardless of gender or age, to wanted them together by the end. Not all, obviously, but it's a majority so far as I can tell. I just hope if there's a movie, they don't try to keep up the idea that the age difference is such a huge deal - two established adults with 10+ years of friendship having a large age gap isn't that scandalous, especially as the character of Annie would be about 30 by now.

I've watched this series. 10 thru. Just finished free months ago on Hulu. Else I don't understand is why a resurgence on Netflix, but nothing on Hulu... Having community was big reason I got Hulu and then go Hulu live

Love seeing the modest buzz around community, through netflix and youtube. A lot of people want the movie. I don't know whether they realize it won't be better than season 6: Donald Glover will never act as such a silly character again. Chevy might return due to fame issues. But the Danny-Donald chemistry will never return. I hope the charater of Elroy returns. Him and franky made the season the best, after 1-3.

Remember that flashback episode in season 2.... Why can't that be the entire basis for the movie it's back in time when the cast was an institution, hit some familiar points, Easter eggs, maybe visit the other community college for hijinks, and some musical montage for the first time they covered for Glee club. It's everything we could want in a "lost season" found within movie.

You saved yourself a lot of heartache by waiting. Imagine watching a season, absolutely loving the show, then having to wait an entire year for the next season knowing there was a huge risk of it being cancelled. Or hearing that it WAS canceled. That was every single year being a Community fan. Now you get to enjoy it without that stress 😊

I just watched all 6 seasons on Netflix and I agree with Harmon here. The show does not find it's footing into past the midpoint of the first season. I even thought the pilot was one of the most formulaic and unfunny introductions to a show I have seen. My favorite season is 3 because it's when they go absolutely beyond trying to play by the rules of most sitcoms. They got daring. You can see the drop in quality on season 4. Big mistake bringing in new show runners.

If the goal was to placate the small but vocal shippers that watched the show, I think "romantic without being sexual" was the only thing they could have done with Jeff and Annie. That was the best way to walk that fine line I think. It's surprising that he was even trying to appease the fangirls in the first place though. But yeah, I bet that was a tricky thing to write because that relationship had an almost incestuous nature because of the age difference so to make it anything more would be creepy.
