The Adelsons got away with first degree murder in my opinion. It's a complete miscarriage of justice that the people they hired were arrested, tried, and convicted but NO ONE in the wealthy family that hired them to do the deed has been arrested for their part in the crime. It's infuriating. Because of their actions, a man is dead, murdered in cold blood at his own home, and Dan's children have been robbed of having their father in their lives. Just disgusting.

I agree with you! They got away with murder! Also the last name Markel were also removed from the children's names. Wend sure hold a grudge, it does appear to have been revenge crime motivated as Dr Grande said.

It's only because of the wealth and influence of the Adelsons that they haven't been charged. There's plenty of evidence against them. Dan Markel would not be dead if it weren't for Wendy Adelson and her sordid family.

Wendi Adelson had other things to lose, not just her children. Dan Markel's legal actions called in question her integrity as a professor and attorney. She could very likely have lost her job and license. Wendi's boyfriend, Jeffrey Lacasse, began seeing a therapist due to his relationship with her, and the therapist mentioned that there were two options to explain her behavior. Either she was simply sowing "wild oats" during her new experience as a single divorcee, or she was a sociopath.

Even if their mom and grandparents are innocent, this would be horrible to face but especially having doubts about their own mom and family. There is record of Wendi saying about her divorce from Dan Markel that the children are small and this was the best way for them (meaning, they won't remember a time before it). I think this plays into the psychology around the plot. One main motivation was to largely keep the kids away from Dan. Wendi and family saw him as a workaholic, religious zealot, and vicious. As well the Adelsons did not like Dan's ideologies and rules. They thought he was making Wendi suffer and was trying to take her down in court and professionally ruin her life. The other classic motivation = money. Wendi (and her family) knew about the one million dollars for each son in life insurance money. I think in a twisted sense the Adelsons thought they were giving the boys the best gift - one day to come into a million dollars each to start out their lives and also be raised by the "better half" of the family. They rationalized the boys would have so little memory of their father as they were young that it wouldn't hurt them too bad. Remember the Adelsons NEVER thought this would get back to them. That this would always be a mysterious unsolved crime and they didn't expect it would get so much national air time and attention. Charlie promised them he had it under control with his "trust me" talk. They were all wicked, held murderous rage against Dan, and were so threatened and desperate that murder sounded like the only option to get out of the mess, which they saw would have only continued as the boys grew up.

The people who planned the murder thought about the weaknesses of hiring a hitman and found a solution that has worked so far. The hitman loved the middle woman and would not turn on her, and the killer did not know who ordered the hit. So to solve the problem, the State would have to come up with solid proof against the middle woman, and the State could not count on the hitman helping with that. The State's case against the hitman was much stronger, of course, then it is against Magbanua. Magbanua is and always was the shield, and she was prepared well for the role.

Murders in connection with custody battles seem to occur regularly. Apparently there exists a common urge to put an end to a conflict which is seen to go on eternally and which consumes a lot of money as well as an exhausting amount of emotional energy. For some that's reason enough to leave the path of rationality. This horrific case is particularly interesting because it involves different social groups that, as I assume, do not mix easily. On the one side there is an ambitious upper middle class environment, on the other side you have rather disadvantaged people, some of them heavily and habitually involved in crime. The flashy paradontist prides himself to bridge the gulf between the groups by having a series of girlfriends to whom he seems to make clear that he will never accept them as equals. It's a very strange brew, and the unsuspecting professor became the victim of it.

Dr. Todd I fully agree with all your logical analysis. When I first read about this case, and about the possible motive, it’s like, the simple problem was given a super duper complex solution.

IT's not over until the fat lady sings. Cappleman might go harder this time and perhaps have more efficient support staff. her last effort was a Shonda, esp compared with the slick delivery of Advocate Tara Kawass who is really in her element in this courtroom of theatrics . Mr de Coste is a Dofus in comparison with her. Maybe Tara will "break a leg" just before the next big showdown in October 21. TEF

@ Rull Mourn, What kind of life do you think the Adelsons are now living? They are all expecting to be arrested any moment now. What an uncomfortable life to live, wouldn't want to be in their shoe.

I watched the entire murder trial of Garcia and Rivera and Katherine Magbanua. It was a fascinating trial. The ironic part is the prosecutor spent more than half there opening and closing statements making the case that the Adelson family-father, mother, son, and daughter-were ultimately behind the murder - but none of the Adelsons were charged in the case at the time.

Mr. & Mrs. Bear- that’s a truly nauseating way to refer to each another. I have always been wary of “ideal couples”....🤔 Dr. Grande, I wish you and your family a Happy Easter!🐣 ✨❤️ Who knows, you might even take the day off tomorrow.😉

Guessing who paid for her legal team insured her conviction in having her lawyers talk her out of accepting a deal. This offered complicated protection for them while assuring the “defense” team would make the most billing hours in a lengthy trial as reward for their efforts. Kawass -want to hear my own voice, wasn’t privy to this information and did her shameful, arrogant “best”, using the term loosely. Her theatrical arrogance worked well to shift focus as a double down smoke n mirrors type of bonus. Additionally, her legal team didn’t prepare Katie for taking the stand leaving her exposed and disliked by jurors with the “if you say so and I don’t remembers.” The mistrial had little to do with her defense team. One juror could not grasp legal concepts, while the other failed to understand validity of technical evidence. It was 10-2 in favor of guilty. The bankroll for her defense team is key. I’m confident concealment of this fact is airtight. Yet, KM could expose the recommendation in her proffer. Finally, Charlie has been arrested. Georgia is an excellent prosecutor. Let’s hope her patience to indite each Adelson follows in subsequent evidence stemming this virtue.

Oscar is back! I have a problem with folks confessing & getting a lesser sentence! Sometimes those couples that are "perfect" (not to mention those dumb nicknames) are not what they appear to be. As I always say "if it looks too good to be true than it probably is" :)

It can be very hard for the victims and their family to go through a trial and so much worry about whether they will be found guilty. So I can see why they give an incentive to confess. Though they do it to save the government money.

I think you're exactly right. It was revenge oriented, especially by Donna who could not stand the thought he'd made a motion for her to have supervised visits after bad mouthing him to his boys. That's what tipped her over the edge and they all got sloppy. She's someone who's clearly used to getting her way and will go to whatever lengths she can to get it. Wonder how that skill will translate for her in prison.

BINGO... sure looks like the brother will be found guilty first, then the next person to fall will be the mother who hated her son in law because he didn't want HIS KIDS anywhere around her, am sure he had good reason to say that, she must be a real bitch. So who does that leave - the father. Questionable if he knew anything but he probably was involved. I doubt they can make charges stick to the wife of the dead husband unless they find something damning in the future. Even if her parents go to prison, I doubt they would drop a dime on her. So if ALL the wife's family ends up in prison for 50 years, the daughter will be alone with the kids. The murdered man's family will probably be able to have the kids removed , to live with them. ALL OF THIS FOR NOTHING GAINED except a lot of pain Interesting that the parents of the wife are rich and je wish, and KILLERS
