TEDx Talks

Күн бұрын

Dan introduced his first book, Whole Body Fitness, establishing his foray into the authorial realm in 1979. Since then Millman has written an impressive 16 books, both fiction and nonfiction, and all focus on the conscious evolution of the mind and body. Dan's books have been translated to 29 languages and have influenced millions of lives. Perhaps his most popular book, Way of the Peaceful Warrior, was adapted to film in 2006.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

This Dan shares the truth... basicly... you're fine being all alone, you're fine being with people, you're fine yelling, you're fine crying, you're fine having pain, you're fine being laughed at, you're fine being mocked. Basicly what he's book told me, that there's absolutely no danger in the world, socially. The true danger, is not allowing yourself, to relax into this moment!.

I love the passage where Socrates asks Dan -where are you? Dan says that he is in the office of a gas station. Socrates asks him where that is. Dan replies that it is in California. Socrates prods him further...in the United States, which is on the Earth, in the solar system,.. in the Milky Way galaxy, ..in the universe. Then, Socrates asks: where is the universe? Dan stumbles, and can't answer. Socrates asks him how he can be so certain about everything if he doesn't even know where he is.

You might be surprised. You see, everyone is in development, you might meet a budding Dan Millman someday just as I did. Dan was the residential dorm head when I was a freshman at Oberlin College from 1979 to 1980. He was also our diving coach. He taught us how to juggle during Freshman Orientation. He had a philosophy about visualization that got me to nationals (in swimming) by my senior year, simply based on that one 30 minute juggling lesson.

My favorite feeling is when people are rewarded for things that they haven’t been rewarded for but they should’ve been rewarded for and things that they did regardless of being rewarded for especially when it’d be easier to just not be rewarded but they knew they should’ve been rewarded and so they did it anyway not in any kind of expectation but in some deeper sense of knowledge and understanding of things that they knew they should do because that’s what they are and that’s the same as understanding who they are and that the reward is far less than knowing what they should do and why they should do it and doing it despite what everything else says.
