Brock's play in the SB was one of the few silver linings, and gives some optimism looking forward. Now after having a full season as a starter, gaining more experience, and having a full off season this time around, Brock may come back even better than he did this past season. I'm praying he does & that this SB loss ignites this team in a major way.

Exactly my thoughts dude. It's also a chance for Brock to take on a leadership role and carry his team through a painful off-season, because he's got a genuinely positive spirit. Maybe the team can shore up the o-line too, and we could see something really special happen. Definitely silver lining.

@@kevinhall9226 I agree. I think Brock being more vocal in his leadership to take more command will for sure be a benefit, and hopefully that comes during the off season as you said. That o-line *definitely* needs to get tightened up too. If they can do that then the Niners offense will be more lethal as well, along with Brock using his legs a bit more too for scrambling when necessary (like in the Detroit game).

Oh ffs. They got rid of Trey Lance because they didn’t have time for a QB to develop and they needed to “win now”. Now that the little make a wish kid failed to score 20 points on an offense with 5 pro bowlers to win a Super Bowl, people are saying it’s ok Brock just needs time to develop. Purdy mafia just wants to have it both ways. He’s totally elite, but also 5 pro bowlers aren’t enough on offense, they need to upgrade the o line. He’s totally elite, but it’s not fair to expect him to put up 20 points to win a Super Bowl. He’s totally elite, but also maybe with more time he’ll get better. I hope one day Purdy mafia realizes that they don’t actually hold Brock to the standard of a real franchise QB because deep down, just like the Purdy “haters”, they also know he’s an average QB that needs a lot of help to win.

Btw for the record if you wanna blame the o line you should know Mahomes was under way more pressure all game long. Sacked 3 times while Purdy was only sacked once and pressured and hurried way more. The difference is Mahomes is actually a franchise QB so he was still able to scramble for 66 yards whereas Brock only scrambled for 12, and in overtime he was able to lead his team to a TD while Brock could only get them a FG. Oh and Brock also has better weapons on offense, Kelce is the only advantage the Chiefs have and even then Kittle isn’t far behind, CMC is way better than Pacheco and Deebo/Aiyuk/Jennings are way better than Rice/Hardman/MVS. So Mahomes was able to lead his team to the win despite being under more pressure and having worse weapons on offense. You can say it’s not fair to hold Purdy to Mahomes level, but as long as Mahomes is in the league, that’s the level you’re gonna need to surpass if you want to win a Super Bowl.

Praise for Brock Purdy has not been close to universal this year. But it has been very nearly universal amongst former and current quarterbacks, with Cam being the notable exception. The guys who know how hard it is to play the position give the highest praise

As someone who would know, your comment is true, but incomplete. We tend to know the difficulties of playing that are hard to see from the stands and we know if someone is "dogging" it. Purdy has never dogged it and he understands the nuances of the game. He will only get better. Lastly, he seems like a decent young man with his priorities straight.@@erikdayne5429

Brock didn't muff a punt, miss an extra point, fumble, miss blocks, call bad plays, defense not holding them at the end. He did a great job. Thank you for being honest. KC has a wicked defense. They took care of Buffalo and Baltimore on the road. Brock didn't lose that game.

Brock Purdy is playing on an offense with 5 pro bowlers, he needed to lead that offense to score 20 points to win a Super Bowl, and he failed to do so. Brock might not have lost the game, but he had all game to win it and he didn’t do that either.

Purdy was just like ice, like he wasn't even bothered by KC. Much as they're praising KC's defense, let's not forget that KC was behind almost the entire game, and it was last second heroics by Mahomes that won this game. KC's defense did their job by keeping the Niners from blowing them out, but the Niners had the lead for almost the whole game.

As a niner fan, i have never been more confident in our QB (i was born in 92) very excited for next season and to see his development. Coming off that UCL injury and going to the big game in his second year is pretty remarkable.

He played too conservative. This whole time he’s actually played with a gunslinger mentality and in this game he actually decided to be a game manager. It’s a shame because in this game they really did need him to take some shots and just go for it. He held the ball too long waiting for the perfect throw when he would have been better off just letting it rip.

First, Rich.... thank you for not being a lap dog for the NFL. Since mid season I've simply laughed at the "experts" who questioned Purdy. After a few more games it became OBVIOUS. There was a narrative passed down by NFL headquarters... Purdy can't be good. That's CAN'T be allowed. Every time he succeeds it makes more and more of a joke about the NFL combine. What proved it for me was Shannon Sharpe's personality change when he went from Skip to Steven A. With Skip he was reasonable, thoughtful and had wise input. The minute he went to ESPN... he became a crazed dog for the network... He went from a favored analyst to unwatchable.

He played exactly how he’s been playing the entire time he’s been with SF. Honestly this was one of his more pedestrian games. Wasn’t bad, wasn’t incredible. Had some awesome completions and beat a handful of blitzes, also had a couple of missed passes that were easy completions but the timing was a hair off. Anyone who has consistently watched the Niners would know this. I truly don’t understand how his play is catching anyone by surprise at this point, unless you just simply haven’t been watching him.

Actually, Steve Young says that future Super Bowl Champs will be shuffled around between 4 or 5 QBs over the next decade (and Purdy is not in that group), but Burrow is 5 - 1 against Mahomes and Allen (one penalty away from 6 - 0) so stay tuned...

One missed block on 3rd and 4 made Purdy need to throw it too quick, or else he had Jennings for the possible winning TD. Deebo was at fault for that missed TD. He played good. The special teams and OL crapped the bed

Honestly I was upset over the Niner's loss. When Greenlaw went down even before the game started, for me, that was a huge omen for the Niners. Losing one of their best players pre-game was not good. I want to believe Niners will have more chances to get back to the big one with Brock at center. Just have to pay attention to how they go about their off season.

Even with all that, we still should have won. But for some reason, freak injuries always happen to us. Navarro Bowman in the NFCCG against Seattle in 2013 or Brock Purdy last season & now Dre Greenlaw Sunday. Why can't we stay healthy? Kelce was stopped until Greenlaw tears his Achilles. The worst thing is how hard the Forty-Whiners fans COPE comparing Brick Turdy to Joe Montana when he's actually Jimmy G 2.0!! The Whiners need to move away from GaBrockolo asap, or they won't win again next year. Pop Warner Check-down QBs don't win the big games in the NFL. Elite QBs like Brady, Mahomes, and even Stafford (who the Whiners tried to get) win the big games by putting the team on their backs and getting TDs when they have to.

Brock deserves his flowers... he is a top 10 QB. He was dealing, aside from the missed blocking assignments, he made just about every pass and played very well. Its time for the niners to get him at least 1 upgrade on the right side of the offensive line.

Fantastic is a bit of a stretch. He played good which has been proven to be good enough against lesser competition but he needed to be better than just "good" in the Super Bowl and he just wasn't quite that. But given it's only his second year (first as the starter) and didn't even have a training camp I say the kid did quite well for himself. Time will tell and he will definitely prove that he is him!

@Winddeezstun Been watching NFL since the early 70s. I remember when the 9ers were the laughing stock of the league until Bill Walsh, Montana, and the Catch changed it all. I also know mediocrity when I see it... and I see it in Purdy. If he doesn't have the perfect pieces around him, he can't do it... case in point: The Ravens beat you when he didn't have all his pieces. He is better than Jimmy G. But Brock does have a lot better team than Jimmy ever did. Granted also is that he is only in his 2nd year. Hopefully, for his sake, he gets a lot better because there's a good chance SF loses some important pieces. 😎

I wouldn't call him fantastic...but for 950,000...you aren't gonna get a better deal ever. You can see Shanahan peotecting him...not asking him to do anything he is incapable of. And that is admirable. But every single time a team pressures him...i have never seen him reach deep and do something that i go wow over. But for the price...he is the best they can do

Yes, it seems like the people screaming at the top of their lungs he's 'elite', seem to want him to be praised for throwing 1 TD and had some epic performance. I do think he played good and do have a better opinion of him, but I'm just not having this whole "he balled out" talk when they had to keep settling for field goals and not able to make key 3rd downs to seal it.

What they're saying is the defense was playing so out of their minds that getting any kind of production on offense took a high level of play. So he played a lot better than the stats will tell you.

Fantastic wasn't good enough with the Niner's O-line vs. a great D. Niner's need to start prioritizing O-line earlier in the draft.

Y'all act like Purdy should've stiff armed Chris Jones and threw 3tds. He played as good as Lamar and Josh allen against KC. Purdy mightve been better, he actually kept himself composed with no turnovers or stupid fumbles. Plus only a second year player. That's why some say he was fantastic.
