First met Mike Reynolds in 93 after living in Mexico for a year, and yeah... the homes properly sunk below the frost line are so much more stable temperature wise. I hope you got proper permitting to do it. People are just building these on their land thinking they don't need proper permits and doing all the work for nothing once the county finds out. All plans for these need engineer signatures on them to get permit approval.
@tworebelsoffgrid
@tworebelsoffgrid 11 ай бұрын
@@azarelthecreator7098 yes, of course we got a permit. In our county you do not need a permit if it’s under 200 square feet, has no utilities, and does not cost more than $1000 to build. In our county we have a building permit called an opt-out permit which does allow you to build residentially without inspections or very limited inspections. Every county is different, so we always advise people to always check with your county on permits before building.

You know what you're talkin about how it's easier when you moisten the stuff for the bags I would also say the same thing about digging it's very hard when it's dry it's a lot easier when it's wet you're in the desert of course so I would have to say digging down three feet would be quite difficult but I would say obtainable where I'm at but in the desert I would say no I do love this On the spray foam out side you were talking about how important it was to cover the bags because of UV degradation you might well want to check to make sure that purple paint actually a good ultraviolet light barrier because that's the biggest problem next to the fact that I believe that maybe ants might well like your foam from below grade all the way the rafters

I like some aspects of such building, such as financial independence (great for young people), building with your hands, or building from local materials. But the "engineering" and workmanship of this build is scary, even much more than with other earthship-like houses. It wouldn't even work, if the climate there wasn't that forgiving.

New Sub, I Love the house and the community helping you and all learning together, at 57 my back is pretty ruined, by lifting disabled people in the 80’s without hoists, so it does limit me. But I currently live in a 20ft former refrigerated shipping container so it’s insulated, and I’m 100% off grid, it’s pretty rustic as I use a long drop (pit toilet) which suits me because since I was a kid we always had to conserve water due to years and years of drought so I grew up with water restrictions, I don’t run out with my 20,000 litre water tank, only had to buy water to fill it the first time 5yrs ago. I am a city boy but have always loved the bush and nature so where I am now is perfect, a few more creature comforts would be nice, but it will come it just takes a bit longer when you’re older and haven’t had the financial resources, but I own my 16 acres and anything on top of that is a benefit. A great video and Daniel Sage is obviously a really great guy, with fun energy, so you need people like that to rally the community and lift the mood when things go wrong and everyone is tired, especially with laughter and his music, I remember in my youth all the parties I went to where we would have a jam session, a fire and making music even in the city was the best kind of fun. Keep up the great video’s and courses Adobe Sage, I’m going to sub to your channel. It’s always beautiful to see younger people choosing to live simpler and to create such positive communities that make homes together. Keep the joy alive and when you make something whether it’s Art, Music, performance, houses, you make the world more positive. Well done to all of you.

How would I apply the pumice/scoria to the wall?
@TheOffGridGuru
@TheOffGridGuru 5 ай бұрын
Great Question, There are several ways to do it. Here are some techniques in no particular order of priority: #1: Double up the wall thickness from the beginning. Use one course of earthbag and one course of scoria filled bags side by side. This would ideally start from sub grade and be as high as the adobe walls, under the eves of the roof. Might be too much labor for some, I haven't seen it done, usually people go with one or the other. #2. Hire a company to come and pour scoria / pumice-crete in slip formed walls.. This could be the load bearing and insulation walls of the house, then you could skip the earthbags and just use pumice-crete as the primary material. Plaster the inside with clay, for some thermal mass. Not sure it would make sense to pour pumice crete around a hyperadobe structure... but I'd love to see the experiment. #3 There is a technique where you mix the scoria/clay balls with a binding agent and throw globs on it on the walls. It looks bumpy when cured, can't remember what it's called. But this technique would be applied to the exterior after its already built. I'll ask around and get back. #4. Double wall cavity filled with loose pumice. I've seen this done with a double can & mortar wall as an experiment at the Earthship Testing Site... Hope that gives you some ideas! I'd say all of them are experimental except the poured pumice-crete... but that's not an add-on to the exterior...rather an entirely different wall system

Idk if it's mental illness or what, but I like to design off grid homes in my mind that have extremely low heat n cooling costs while I'm at work. Similar to this, I'm no architect or whatever. Think it's just a form of rejection to work and bills and bs. But it'd sure be nice to live dirt cheap. Tried camper life across the country and NOTHINGS free in The Land of the Free, it's never-ending bs, find water, get water, dump water, find parking, get harassed, find new parking. Or pay enough utilities and campground fee's monthly that you're paying the same as an apartment and utilities.
