awesome tutorial thanks! the only criticism i have is i don't think he did a deck switch. i think he used a stripper deck to strip out his set up stack after shuffling.

great tutorial guys, i'm always amazed when i see how quick are your tutorial to come out and also how accurate they are!! Just one question, Dan Wite made a suffle at the beginning of his performance so...how to prevent to shuffle your 17 cards with the others? sorry if my english is not that perfect, peace from Italy ;)

if I'm not mistaken, I think Dan was also using hand signals to influence Jimmy's selections. Dan's hands were drumming on the edge of the table in line with the left two piles, and Jimmy chose those two piles. The last choice for Jimmy, Dan's index finger was hovering above the table to the pile that Jimmy chose.

my question is though....how did Dan manage to isolate his chosen 17 cards if he shuffled it (all facing the same way) at the very beginning and laid the two layers out for Jimmy to see before he gathered them back up?

The trick was not created for this event. The trick is much much older and it was one of the first tricks i learned

With a stripper deck 17 (or whatever force cards) can be reversed in the deck and spectator can shuffle the deck at will / then you do a "cut" or strip out your force packet as one of the piles and spectator can cut the remaining 2/3'ish of deck. A magician would catch it but most people don't know about a stripper deck. Thoughts?

Erm the 52 factorial was to reinforce the fact that he was getting order from chaos and that 'if' a deck si shuffled then it's 'probably' never been shuffled to that order ever before in the world. Whether or not he did a deck switch or not the very large number helped to cement the story. Also pretty certain he didn't switch decks at all. Probably just a false shuffle. You can also see very easily when he's looking for the break in the deck. Looked pretty awkward actually although he had them doing something else whilst he was doing that.

I don't think he did a deck switch. I think he had a break in the cards and the top 17 cards combined from the shuffle were his set up, notice how he was very meticulous and shuffled them slowly so they alternated

With all do respect, if you cannot explain exactly how he set up the split of cards, its not revealed. Basic shuffling skills allows a simple explanation, obviously the trick is how to accomplish "the switch" or, "the shuffle".

he doesn't need a deck switch. and the 52! is to show how random of a chance it is supposed to be that he would guess correctly. it is a presentation thing, and has nothing to do with him switching decks.

Khashayar Mirsadeghi Agreed. I perform this wth the shuffle at the beginning. With the proper setup, even a sloppy shuffle will work.

It's very closely based on a trick by Simon Aronson, and another by Paul Green. You can do some research and find the routines that most closely match. They don't specifically state how to do the shuffle at the beginning, but the main difference with Dan White's version is that he splits the deck into 3 parts at the beginning instead of 2. This means that there are less cards in each pile, which with proper setup and handling makes the shuffle more simple. I am not into exposing the methods, but I can perform this exact effect with a single shuffle at the beginning.

Everyone is aware of shuffling into a set up or false bridge shuffles. A deck switch is just easier to teach
