The issue is if Merab keeps winning at #1 spot and denying title shots then no title fight can be made without jumping the #1 spot. No title fights mean less ppv’s and UFC isn’t going to skip ppv’s.

Dana is 100% right . Merab made it all the way to #1 contender just to not fight aljo and gatekeep. If u look at the rankings before sean got his fight with yan it makes sense why he skipped the rankings. Merab and aljo basically cleared out the top guys. I can understand where Dana is coming from. The UFC has rarely had a situation where the #1 contender is teamed with the champion of the same division. It shouldn't be like that. It disregards the point of the #1 contender spot. It's also a huge missed opportunity for Merab to be a champion, it's not something you should decide when to take, it should be immediate.
