Dan, the purpose of the waterproof zipper, is to protect the zipper itself, from things like mud, dirt, etc. To stop things from getting into the zipper and prevent it from functioning correctly, or at all.

I'm new to backpacking. Thanks for letting me know to stay away from Big Agnes. It sounds like they make terrible overpriced gear.

My hiking gear got stolen so I'm starting over, trying to replace a whole packing list all at once. It's difficult choosing decent gear in a market flooded with so much junk gear with huge price tags. I appreciate your videos and can't wait to get back on the trail

Why the water proof zipper: Assuming the pouch is waterproof/water resistant, it gives you a place to put items that are sensitive to water like electronics. Looking at that pouch it looks perfect for a phone, a battery bank and maybe some extra camera batteries for an action cam.

I OWN AN 80L DUTCH ARMY BACK PACK AN IT'S NOT PERFECT BUT IT WOULD HAVE CARRIED 45LB OR MORE WITH NO PROBLEM. IT NOT FOR MANY BUT IT GET'S THE JOB DONE. IT'S PRETTY MUCH AN LOWE ALPINE STING BACK PACK. I ALL SO HAVE THE SMALLER STRIKE VERSION AN IT'S AN AWESOME 40+20 BACK PACK AN THE ONLY THING I DON'T LIKE. IT DOESN'T HAVE A FRAME. MOST WILL NEVER TRY BACK PACK'S LIKE THIS AN THERE MISSING OUT ON SOME VERY STRONG BACK PACK'S.

I HAVE NOTICE SOMETHING. IT SEEM'S A LOT OF PEOPLE PACK WAY TO MUCH STUFF IN A SMALLER PACK. IS THAT BECAUSE LIKE MOST PEOPLE DON'T WANT AN TALLER PACK? I SEE SO MANY VIDEO'S WERE IT LOOK'S LIKE A BIGGER PACK WOULD BE SO MUCH EASER TO USE. IT SEEM LIKE AN 50/ 60l PACK NOT TO LOW AN NOT TO HIGH. THAT'S WHY I LIKE MILITARY AN MILITARY STYLE PACK'S BECAUSE MOST ARE SHORT AN WIDE. I DON'T NO WHY THEY STOP MAKING WIDE AN PACK'S WITH REAL OUT SIDE POCKET'S ?

I bought the Shadowlight 60 a year ago and love it. Fixed the squeak in the frame by rubbing wax on the top 3 inches of the frame. Best backpack I have ever used.

I bought this backpack. It is water resistant. No it’s not waterproof but the majority of the shell material is water resistant. The roll top combined with the pocket zipper. After watching this review I bought a couple straps to put on the bottom. No biggie. I’ve hiked with it and it breathes better than I expected and found it comfortable. The large side pockets are great.

I have a kinda similar trash bag that I made myself. I don't eat out of pouches, so I don't get trash that would start to smell or get gross. I also like to pick up trash I find on the trail, so it's important the trash bag is easily accessible and I hang it on the outside of my backpack.

Thanks for the review! I was considering trying it out but I'll wait until they fix the issues you mentioned. I've been super happy with my Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60 for the last 2 years!
