Dance Gavin Dance drew inspiration from Paramore and Destiny's Child on "Artificial Selection"

In the modern age of music consumption, your next favorite album is always just a stream away. In a world where the music that matters to you most lives in your pocket, the amount of work put in to get it onto your phone is often overlooked. In this APTV original series, we're devoted to bring you the story behind the streams.
Dance Gavin Dance reveled in experimentation and an onslaught of guitar pedals to create their eighth studio album "Artificial Selection," a record they describe as partially accessible but mostly a "journey" that must be taken over and over to be understood. Vocalist Tilian Pearson, guitarist Will Swan and bassist Tim Feerick discuss the standout tracks of their dynamic new record, the melodic influence of TLC and Destiny's Child, which track will most likely never be played live and get a little emotional over their fan's reaction to "Artificial Selection."

Tillian talking about accessibility makes so much sense. I didn’t care for this album very much on the first listen through, but so many of the songs have quickly become some of my favourite DGD songs and this album easily lands in the top three of my favourite DGD albums. Bravo boys! Yet another killer album by the most creative and refreshing band in the scene

Alexander Matte 100% agree with you dude! First listen I was like eh it’s not bad, not what I expected. But now it’s constantly on repeat just like every other album from them. Been here since their self titled/Death Star album and they continuously keep me on my toes and show me how refreshing this genre can really be with the right mind set.

Me too. I was very skeptical about this album after the first few singles. Then i saw those songs live and then a few days later the album came out and I've definitely come around on it in a big way.

But everyone says Mothership is the best album when that is one of the most accessible and cookie cutter albums in Post-Hardcore... not just the DGD catalogue.

It's funny how that works a lot with music. Often times it's not the songs you love right off the bat that become your favorite, but the ones that you listen to the first time and you're like, "This is alright I guess, I don't know." So far that seems to be the common reaction to this album.

That's where I am at now, finishing the first time through and I am like ehh its alright. Glad to know that will hopefully change. Regardless I will always support bands who are constantly trying to change and venture through uncharted territory, you get some really good shit that way.

Been listening to these guys since 2007, and throughout all of the changes they have only ever impressed me with every new album release. I remember being so upset when Jonny Craig left the group, but they've really found their sound with Tilian and they're the one and only band I can say is better than it was in high school. While every other band has broken up or became some pop radio bullshit, DGD has just been getting better at what they do. Never change guys

Oscar Ortiz idk what kind of pop is on your radio but the shit I hear sure as he'll doesn't sound like this lol. They'd never play something like this on the same radio stations with taylor swift, ed sheeran ect. But bands like fall out boy, panic, and the killers get radio play and are hardly recognizable anymore.

Woah, Tilian is so chill! When I met him last year at Warped he seemed super up tight, maybe it was just the atmosphere, but in this video he seems much more chill.
