Small budget . Big film . Love the style - the close up on eyes - tightening & sweaty countenance , maniacal laughs , crazy feats of gun play and the music of course . Lee Van Cleef has such an iconic , intense , enigmatic look . Now we have endless 'superhero' movies .

As much as I'd love to agree with you, the MAIN thing that made these movies work is the director and the music. Without those 2, Clint and Lee wouldnt have been that much of a force.

I was a kid back in 1969 when I watched this movie with my mom and dad! Over at the Plaza Theater. Best part was when Clint Eastwood rode into the town of El Paso! Everyone stood up and applauded the scene! It did look like El Paso back in the 1880's! Including the Mountain! But this movie was filmed in Italy which has a Southwestern United States terrain setting, Kind Of!

Gian Maria Volonté Carried this role so well. He almost steals the show from Van Cleeve and Eastwood. Sergio sure new how to pick them. Eli Wallach being another. Then the way He shot these movies with the great close ups was like no other movies of the time. He was a Genius.

I was born in 1958 and saw all these Man With No Name movies when they came out and they're even better now. I become immersed in that world. I also saw all the Matt Helm and Our Man Flint movies. Thanks for posting this legend. I worked in Hollywood for eight years and never met or went to a function where Clint was but he was one of the first famous people I saw driving when I moved to LA. He drove a hunter green pickup truck, I think GMC and was right along side me waiting for a light to turn green. I never saw him in any context after that.

There’s been many many westerns over the years, films like the classic Shane, High Noon, Epics like The Big County, How The West Was Won, Dances With Wolves, just to name a few of course we could go on there’s been some brilliant western films made and we all have our favourite , it would be very hard to pick one particular film as they were ALL good in there own right, but for me I think it would after be the Spaghetti westerns THE GOOD THE BAD & THE UGLY, for me one of the best westerns of all time, especially for the grave yard scene at the end, there is another western mini series, LONESOME DOVE , and the sequel, RETURN TO LONESOME DOVE, two of the best series ever made , of course everyone has there own choice , but there are so many to pick from.

Watched in Italian is better, because it has been shot silent, and after dubbed (even in English, so only Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cliff speak with their own voices), and the italian dub is made under the supervision of the director. Obviously the dialogues are thought and created in Italian. An example is Indio's parable.

I've seen these trilogy movies and all theClint Eastwood movies that followed. I even worked on a film that we used Lee Van Cleef's home and his backyard for a couple scenes and I met his wife. He had already passed away but I had work inside their home and got to see lots of photographs and awards and some memorabilia that was around the living room and den. I wish I could have met the man.
