Look forward to your reaction to Yava. I thought you would enjoy it . BabyMetal are on Amuse Books as dancers as well as singers , models, and actresses . So are not singing and having to dance they are dancers who can sing as well . They are announced as Su-Metal Vocals and Dance, Yui Metal Scream, and Dance and Moa Metal Scream and Dance . A reactor who is a vocal coach said the way they stand helps keep their vocals steady or something along those lines . Su jumps up and down, and her vocals are still steady . Mikiko said Su does not know how great a dancer she is and wishes people could just watch her in rehearsals . Sometimes, the courography is not Suppose to exactly the same time . You will see Su the Yui and Moa all move one after another . They will do it every performance of that song . They can do it in time even when not looking at each other Headbangèr being one of them . The Moa being faster goes back to early days . When she gets excited and moves too early . Headbangèr Night of 15 mix an example . Moa starts really early and restarts during their first performances of Iine with Sakura Gakuin. If it calls for them to be in time with each other, they will do it . Look forward to your next analysis of a BabyMetal song 😁🤘🦊🤘🎄

In the metal breakdown section, the 2/4, if the camera angle gives you a good shot of their final pose (they held it longer in some performances) , they are apparently doing a distinctive crouching "crab most muscular" bodybuilding pose. If you look back through that section it appears like inspiration could literally have come from bodybuilding competition routines, which matches the power and metal of the music breakdown in comparison to the music of the rest of the song (which also in contrast, is thematically about mental confusion). Very masculine energy, though female bodybuilders do the same. I had to look up "tutting" and it turns out this is *very* Mikiko. _"A hip hop dance style that emphasizes the body's ability to create geometric shapes (such as boxes) and movements; predominantly with the use of 90 degree angles"_ - she uses geometric shapes *all the time*. Even including English capital letters. More so for songs from the first album when they were youngest, but others as well. One primary mission, though, is communicating the meaning of the lyrics across the language barrier, so working backwards from the lyrics can be enlightening since your focus as a professional is naturally on many things besides what the lyrics of the song might be about. YAVA! ia a prime example, you noticed all those in-and-out, back-and-forth motions around the head; that's the topic of mental confusion. Another of her approaches is, as she phrased it in an old interview (translated) "placing rhythm into a person's daily movements and actions" which "can be seen as something really attractive and appealing".

_Pippo pappo pippo pappo piii_ I was planning to take a days off but then i saw your notification and can't wait to watch your reaction and analysis on this. YAVA! (actually Yabai!) means like "oh no!" or when describing something dangerous or surprising. They're fusing ska genre (that's the rhythm you like to clap and used to be pretty famous in the UK) and metal in a way no one did before, the charming of our girls is unmatchable. The Kami Band intro in this one is super fun, Mikio Fujioka-sama doing some magic here. (R.I.P.) This was live at Big Fox Festival 2017, last live performance for YuiMetal and you already know the rest, sad moment everytime I remember this. The Kami Band really doing a different intro unlike the rest but still being impressive and fits totally with the song and the ska rhythm. "Chigau" is the temporary title the fans gave to this song when live premiere without knowing the track, the word means "different" and totally fits with the meaning, this could be a song talking about them, you know the surprise factor of being different. The mirror dance between Moa and Yui is something recurrent since early songs and dance choreo like Megitsune you already saw. I would love to see your dance cover of this or any other BM song you like. I wish you a late Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.🦊🤘🎄🎆❤️ See you next time and kitsune up!🦊🤘🔥

7:57 you're right, choreo for BM is actually an essential part of them, but they're not all about dancing, eye-catching technical or attractive moves,... it's about "emote" the story of their songs, the extension/expression of their music so sometimes it's straight up like a play/musical acting, sometimes it like organized chaos with pure high energy.

It was a fun reaction! When mikiko went to New York to study dance, she was shut down for cultural and physical reasons, so I heard that she incorporated Japanese dance, martial arts, tea ceremony, and various other manners into her dance to get her revenge. So he was really proud that BABYMETAL performed in NY and LA Forum.

Great reaction and analysis as always, thanks. At that point, Moa had matched Yui's proficiency on dancing. She talked about it and told that she started to work harder to reach that point (or take things more seriously). I see the ska vibe really worked for you. Yui was clearly in bad condition in this show, it was her last. If you put attention you'll see she has problems following Moa, when it usually was the other way, and they are barely jumping during the whole choreo, they probably changed it from some reason. Some people loves to speculate why Yui left with the weirdest of reasons. They already said it, she was injured and decided to leave after not being able to come back. Very interesting that stuff you mentioned about the more masculine style of dancing, maybe they wanted to make it feel more metal.

I agree. You can clearly see she is taking it a lot easier then in other performances.
@TheSniatch

The thing is this is one of Yui-Metals last performances, she left the group some time after due to health issues. So people always look at her last performance and say, yes her dance is a bit different than it used to be. Not sure if I really agree with it but maybe you can see something since you're more expirienced. Babymetal used to be a 3 girls group, right now it's a 2 girls group with an additional support dancer.
@ThePsychosocialite
@ThePsychosocialite Жыл бұрын
The Big Fox Festival was Yui's last performance with the group. After this show she never appeared as part of Babymetal again. There was a lot of fan speculation that while performing this show Yui was dealing with a back injury (possibly a herniated disc) mainly due images of what seems to be a hardened back brace under her costume, her not being as mobile in her dancing as usual and her extra puffy appearance in her face (a common effect of steroid use to treat injuries). This is a plausible theory since it would explain her not appearing for almost a year before leaving the group (recovery time) and her departure due to not healing or recovering properly to continue performing the strenuous dance routines and tour schedules.
@dgwdgw
@dgwdgw Жыл бұрын
@@ThePsychosocialite This theory's existence, and its plausibility, kills me. *More Speculation warning:* All the way back in 2014, at the Budokan performance where Yui fell off the stage during Headbanger!!!!!!!, that _could have_ caused an injury that refused to heal for years and ultimately forced Yui to stop performing. I doubt the truth will ever become public, because it's Amuse after all. But if Yui _did_ have to leave because of an injury that can be traced back to her work with Amuse it could explain why she's still under contract four years after officially leaving the group despite making no public appearances.
@ThePsychosocialite
@ThePsychosocialite Жыл бұрын
@@dgwdgw I sure everybody hopes Yui has recovered enough to live a normal life and is doing what she wants to do. If the Budokan fall was the root cause of her departure, maybe Amuse keeping her under contract and continuing to pay her is their way of compensating her long term for something that happened while under contract. Thats the problem with certain types of injuries, they can go for years without issue before any real/permanent damage comes to light. By brother had what he thought was a simple pulled back muscle from lifting stuff at work. 20 years later he had to give up working in the building trade, has to have injections in his back, has had 2 surgeries to try to correct it and is registered as disabled. Its what seem like simple things that end up being major problems in the long run if not checked early on.

I think the most sensible answer is chronic back problems, a brace and steroid treatment leading to her "moon face". Anyway there's a special relationship between Yui and Amuse as they keep her on the books every April.

This was Yui's last performance and it was also the last time the real Kami band did an intro. (There was weak one done later on for "Kagerou" by the fake Kami band stand ins during late 2019 but it pales in comparison) The first guitarist Mikio Fujioka, was a music instructor at The Music Institute Tokyo. The second guitarist, Takayoshi Ohmura was actually a student of his. Mikio would only do 2 more shows in December (Hiroshima) at the end of 2017 he would accidentally fall from a observation deck while star gazing. He would die from his injuries a week later Jan 2018. BM video release of "No Rain No Rainbow" later that year, would show Mikio during the verse "We shall never meet again, but I want not to forget you forever. If the dream continues, I wish I'll never wake up from it."

As usual, another great reaction video. Thank you for the way you put your all into bearing down on even the smallest detail. It's quite refreshing. I always enjoy the Kami Band intros, they are such great musicians. Starting off with the late, great Mikio Fujioka RIP, who passed away in 2019, then Takayoshi Ohmura, the amazing Boh on bass, who kills it every time out and Hideki Aoyama, drummer extraordinaire. This is a 2017 concert, might have been one of the last ones for Yui Metal, as she left the group in 2018. I strongly urge to react to a one-off live performance at a concert in Japan of a song called "Night, Night, Burn", which, to my knowledge, was only done that one time. In their inimitable style, Baby Metal tackles Latin Dance Metal, and they crush it !!! I think you will REALLY enjoy it. Another good one is "Awadama Fever", another frenetic dance routine. See if you can locate the video with the English subtitles, the lyrics are funny.
@Kmudaify
@Kmudaify Жыл бұрын
Actually, I think the "out-of-synch" choreo is largely intentional. You'll notice it happens in select moments and if you follow Babymetal over the years, especially the later years, it happens at the same moments regardless of who that third dancer is. Yui, Riho, and Kano. Search youtube for "BABYMETAL - YAVA! 「ヤバッ!」Live compilation 4K HD" to see what I mean. Regardless, I think it's an idiosyncrasy of Mikiko choreography as you'll also see Perfume doing it. That said, the phrase "Yui Lag" was developed for a reason, especially at the Bog Fox Festival (this concert), which was her last performance with Babymetal. She was not on top of her game here. She missed the next show on that tour for health reasons, then the entire 2018 tour, before announcing she quit. :)
@IOOIIIV
@IOOIIIV Жыл бұрын
You’ll also see it in some Perfume and Elevenplay performances, but timing is key there. Moa, in her early years was the faster one. The sync came in only after 2018, when Moa and Su teamed up with two professional dancers to complete the tour that year and went out the door the next year when 3 Avengers were recruited. Riho Sayashi was never in sync with Moa and some fans including me disliked it, intensely. Momoko’s height threw off the sync and it only got settled in 2021, when she became the sole Avenger. Kano kept impressive sync with Moa from the very beginning, even better than with Yui, and that’s why some fans wanted her to be permanent third. There’s also some thing that needs to be said about the JPop vs KPop thing which I will elaborate on later in another post.

Interesting point about their stance, I hadn't noticed it is a consistent deliberate thing, but you're right. I've seen it at certain points, the most obvious example is when Su walks up between Moa and Yui during Road of Resistance Live in Japan (at 2 minutes 27 seconds). She exudes dominance as the other two are pushed aside and she repeats the walk and stance at 8min 1s. It's unfortunate you have to analyze these grainy videos with logos on top. I hope you can take a closer look at the compilations by "KuroKiitsuneSama" and "ferr" in your own time to get a clearer view. They are high resolution and have plenty of close-up camera angles.

You spoke about Yui's and Moa's synchronization. From what I remember Moa is often the faster one. And yes, this is a later performance from 2017 where their dance isn't that far off from each other. In earlier years it was more visible. After Yui (said to be the better dancer) left Moa had a role to fit into as she was given 3 'younger' dancers (the Avengers) who had no experience with metal or Babymetal to work with on old and new choreo. Her and the Avengers are quite well synchronized. I think the only one who had Big experience with being in a J-pop ground was Riho who was the Ace of the group Morning Musume. Which is why I recommend Syncopation (the video with Su's whole face as the thumbnail) the meaning of the term 'syncopation' is very much a part of the choreo which i also see in a lot of their performances from the second album. Also interesting to compare would be Doki Doki Morning from the two Budokan shows (2014 and 2021) But I strongly second another person's suggestion to do Shine from Legend M!! Moa's performance as a solo dancer was incredible!

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🤔 That's really great. I was hoping we would get a reaction from you for this song. It's one of my favorites off of 'Metal Resistance', the second BABYMETAL album. The official lyric is "ヤバッ!" (Yaba!), which is a clipped form of "yabai". Originally, "yabai" meant "dangerous", but in this song and popular usage, it is also used as an exclamation. "Oh no!" is a pretty good equivalent in English. Even with a translation it's hard to know exactly what this song is about. As Du-Metal says on his translation page, "The meaning of the lyrics is vague, obscure & ambiguous." Even so, it's a great example of their "story telling" kind of choreography.

If you'd like a more dance focused Babymetal experience, with extra dancers, I highly suggest Ave Maria/Headbanger from their Legend 1997 show. They perform an electronic mix of their big song Headbanger with several additional dancers. As for the wide stance they so often take, I see it simply as a classic metal "don't test me" sort of message.

The reason their stance is wide is that it helps the singer to use more of their diaphragm. Su has been taking sing lessons since she was six and if she didnt stand this way and use a hundred other techniques she could blow out her voice trying to sing over a metal band for over a decade. The way she has managed is her technique is perfect. Aside from standing wide she also uses her arms to expand her chest to get more air. she is 23 and has never missed a show in over a decade , thats because as you pointed out the choreography takes a back seat to the singing. It has to. Think about how fragile vocal chords are. If she doesnt stand so that she uses her diaphragm and not her throat she wouldnt last a week trying to sing over this band.

Thanks for reacting to this one! I wanted to comment about Moa being faster than Yui in the choreography. On most of their professional videos, they cut around it so you can never really see anything too off. It's only on fan videos that you can really see Moa accidentally starting early a lot. A lot of times she'd start to move for a second before realizing she was early and stopping lol. But, after Yui left, Moa's choreography became perfect because she had to teach their choreography to the Avengers, so she became really amazing

Now try and remember 12 different choreographed sets for the show....to a "Non-dancer"..lol...its still very amazing!! And the fact that they are each just slightly off throughout just lends to each personality..Yui is sharp and precise with her movements while Moa is more fluid and expressive...so even if you could not see their faces, you can always tell which it is by the way they move and dance. To me, there always exists a danger of overanalyzing simple/pure things (like the academic analyses of punk that started popping up in the '80s and '90s), but I think you stay endearingly on the side of appreciation and recognition, rather than the critical here's-all-the-things-they're-doing-wrong-and-here's-what-they-could-do-better blah blah blah side. This is off their 2016 album Metal Resistance. I believe they were between 16-17 during this performance. I generally enjoy and respect your break down of the dancing but I don't get not calling Yui and Moa dancers. You are bott he first one I heard make that comment. They been doing it since they were very young.

The choreo is great, Su’s singing is spot on, but for me it’s the kami band intro and the songwriter(s) here… what a great song.

What I like about the Babymetal choreo is that they try to keep it simple but it still is very entertaining. There is already so much going on with the Metal Music, it's easier to focus on the choreo as well because they are keeping it simple. I say simple but it's very skillful and hard to do. But it's easy to follow with my stupid brain :D

@@BlackArr0w Yui had very real physical problems during those shows, wore a back brace, & looked to be on med/s, so it's obvious to she couldn't be as precise, & move like she wanted. When healthy she was the best dancer of the duo. Moa was a bit fast, & Yui would sometimes stumble into/over her feet after a small "growth spurt". Cheers!

I THINK THAT DANCING IN METAL MUSIC WAS LACKING FOR DECADES. IF YOU LOOK THERE ARE STILL REACTORS THAT SAY HORRIBLE THINGS ABOUT BABYMETAL'S DANCING AND ALSO THEIR SINGING. OMG!!! IT WAS SO HEARTWARMING TO SEE THE CROWD IN ENGLAND IMMEDIATELY EMBRACE THEM AT THEIR 1RST CONCERT THERE. BM WANTS TO SPREAD JOY AND THEY LOVE WHEN LEGENDARY ROCK AND METAL ARTISTS APPLAUD THEM. THEY ARE DELIGHTED WITH THE MUSIC WORLD EMBRACING THEM.

Babymetal - Awadama Fever (2017) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fJ9ylJWG3ZfJfY0.html one of my favourite songs and choreo :) This version of video dont need watermarks (its not blocked) and much more closeups so u can see every dance move. (camera focused mostly on girls) Highly recommend to check this out. In my opinion this choreography more interesting than Yava.

@@jakemuller8626 react to watermarked videos? Seriously? That's bullshit. The only reaction option is when the reactor itself looks WITHOUT watermark, but applies it when editing the video. I don't understand how you can react to watermarked videos at all.. It's a million times worse than even the crappiest compilation. Maybe I just don't know how to look through the watermark - but usually nothing is normally visible there at all.

@@rexeros8825 Wow chill, why so aggressive? You're one of the very few complaining about watermarked logo and that's fine but no need to be rude, no one is doing this recommendation to annoying anyone, the recommendation is always look for the description and watch the clean version, the watermarked logo is for us but sometimes reactors don't have the skills and time to edit, that's why they go with the watermarked option, and is the only way to watch an original live performance clip without being blocked, the only thing that really ruins reactor experience is watching crappy live compilation, i know there are some rare decent live compilation but not all reactors know all about it, not saying you gave her a bad 2017 compilation and I didn't complain at all. I was just trying to helping you out since you give her a usually 2015 blocked version, and the same version is at BMRR but usually safe. Have a nice day and happy new year.

Best Babymetal song. I believe that this was Yui’s last performance with Babymetal. If you do a different take on the choreography, I would check out AJ Hartley’s break down if this song. Much of the choreography in this song is very specific to the songs subject matter. Some of the gestures they use have cultural connotations.

I Love this song and choreography. One of my favorites. This performance was good but as others have said it was Yui's last performance. To me, she looked different in this show. Like not as happy and possibly in pain. Her movements weren't as crisp. And she is very hard on herself with her dancing. A perfectionist, so I am sure not dancing to her own standards probably upset her. I love the performance of this song at the Tokyo Dome. They did the opening choreography longer. More of that cook spinning around on a moving platform too. 🤘🦊🤘

Dance is a very important part of BM. The dancing is not that technical, but it is used to interpret the songs and also in a cheerleading manner for Yui and Moa to pump up the crowd. In Su solos she also adds a lot of expression with her movements and I recommend these next: "Akatsuki Budokan Black Night" "Amore Live at Wembley" BM performances are not really rock concerts, they are more of a combination of a Broadway show with metal music and Broadway needs dancing. You'll get more technical dancing with Atarashii Gakko. Here is another recommendation, it's a recent performance in LA and while the video is from fan cams and so not the best quality, it communicates the amazing atmosphere of the concert in a small venue. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g7-egM1pvq-7gHU.html "YAVA" is definitely different, it literally says so in the lyrics many times. The song feels different too because of the ska beat which you don't expect in a metal context. I put YAVA (translated as something like OMG) together with Awadama Fever as I think they are both about difference and not necessarily being confined by other people's expectations. The YAVA lyrics mention "different" over 20 times and the word "chigau" is translated here as "they are different" (ref Du-metal). Is it about Babymetal and their music being different, Moa and Yui being different even though people seem to think they are twins or just about clothes?...who knows? What it is, is some up tempo metal/ska with a poppy hook, some great choreography, a Kami Band intro that takes it to the next level, maybe BM's heaviest breakdown and an increasingly insistent and manic ending...ie classic BM and definitely in my top 10 BM songs.

Xiaouris, probably this mistakes on the moviments is because Yuimetal was enjuried at this time. This was her last concert with babymetal. If you look the entire concert you will notice that she was a little bit stuck and doing her moviments incompletly. In some closed footages you can see a "back bracer" under her dress. So, i think is because of that. Also, in the earlier babymetal videos, in my impression, Yui is a better dancer than Moa. Moa also said that after Yuimetal left the band, she realised how important was for she improve her dances skills. So, i think that syncronization problem was because of Yui health condition at that time.

I don’t feel like they are dancers- people come to my studio all the time wanting to learn ‘steps and routines’ and I tell them that’ll make them good at the routine, but could they then generate their own rhythm to unpracticed songs? Maybe, but not entirely. I’m sure some choreographers won’t agree with me but I have yet to detect any natural rhythm in them because I don’t believe they were trained that way- and that’s how I would personally define a dancer

Well, I am not sure where everyone thinks that Yui is better, yes faster ...but sloppy! The reason Moa is slower is that she is actually on point, Yui is sloppy and faster. Road of Resistance . . . side shot shows the girls with the arm crossing there chest... Moa's arm is perfectly level when she brings her arm up..where Yui's elbow is is down making her arm not a 90 degree ..... Anyone who has done drill and ceremony will notice it right away. The One... Yui has a difficult time touching her finger tips when making a pyramid when her hands are above her head.. . dont get me wrong. She is good a fast dancer, but she has to concentrate at what she is doing. Moa doesnt have this problem, hence why she is always smiling and interacting with the audience.... she is way more relaxed, which it comes easier.
