Abba have estimated sales of over 400 millions (not to menrion the huge amount of weeklly streaming they get each week by new Gens streamers aged 16-35 that's phenomenal for 'a sort of non-active band') as got officially anounced for once more, a couple of days ago also by BPI in the UK.BPI also gave them a special award for this phenomenal occassion.Abba is second best selling band only topped by The Beatles.

They were pop royalty in the 70’s. Hit after hit, they ruled the pop airwaves. But, if you were a teenage male, you could not be caught dead listening to them. Just not cool. (We all did secretly, and sang along ). Now that I’m older, and not quite as much of a musical snob, I blast it in my car whenever I hear them. Still sounds great.

This is 100% my favorite ABBA song. I have a very vivid memory of floating out of the disco club late one night in the ‘70s with two of my best friends - drunk and stoned - while this song was blasting out from the club to the parking lot. We were singing it at the top of our lungs. I think we were probably about 21 or 22 years old. It’s one of those moments in time that you just never forget.

100%. I think the disco backlash was a misfire. It made all dance music electronic, which I do enjoy a lot of, but I also love the amazing and very human playing on songs like this, the Bee Gees disco hits, and Chic's "Good Times". I've always been proud to be from where I'm from, but after some deep thought, it makes no logical sense. Pride in something you had nothing to do with just seems so ridiculous now. I'm not complaining or being negative here at all. It applies to me as well, of course. I just find it to be a strange and interesting concept. It's still there, inside me. When my favorite team wins, when someone I know or a relative achieves something. Tribalism, I suppose. Which would tie it to survival instinct, I believe. Anyway, something to think about. After having kind of a rough day, seeing Andy & Alex bob to this song made my day.😊 As a teenager, this was pure cheese to me, lol. Now I'm old enough to appreciate the musical genius of ABBA. Next up should be another banger of theirs, "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)". Even Madonna begged to sample this one.

Abba is the second best selling band of all time with so many bangers. So keep on digging. The production is world class, the sound is huge, the songs may appear simple butno one has been able to replicate it, the voices are soaring and with perfect blended harmonies. You dont realize how high it goes until you try to sing along. The only band in history that can make you dance, smile and cry at the same time.

The song that sparked a lifelong love of music in me when I first heard it when I was ten years old. Simply gorgeous. Two of the purest, most beautiful singing voices in music history. You must listen to ABBA's The Winner Takes It All and SOS next. As good or better than Dancing Queen.

Imagine how big it was when it came out, with people rushing to the dancefloor or turning the volume of the car radio to 11 :) This was 47 years ago. Man did they know how to write a great pop song. Dancing Queen and Stayin' Alive have to be 2 of the top 3 disco songs of all time.

Thanks. On a related note, great songs can be successfully made cross-genre. I once heard the great Dwight Yoakam claim this--on an npr interview I believe--and broke out with his guitar on air with a killer country-rockabilly style version of this song. It was so cool.

ABBA gets flak & hate for being disco or "brainless" bubblegum pop, but they totally transcend those genre labels into musical magic that is, quite simply, fun. They also have so many hits that it's hard to pick just one out of their deep, deep well to be next. Perhaps Waterloo or Mamma Mia (if you want something even more upbeat & peppy than this) or Winner Takes It All (if you want something more melancholy yet also very emotionally powerful).
