The Māori people are the indigenous Polynesian
inhabitants of New Zealand who arrived by canoe,
from East Polynesia, in the early and mid 14th-century.
Over centuries of isolation, the Māori developed a
distinctive culture, including their own language, mythology,
crafts and performing arts.
