I made dandelion root and leaf tonic this year for the first time. Supposed to be good for the liver and kidneys. Kept it in a mason jar and sipped it over three days. It was surprisingly mild and refreshing served chilled. A new tradition, born.

MR, I will relocate the dandelion fluff to my tiny front yard from my neighbors lawn. Done this over the last several years. I have an agreement with the lawn care guys for another neighbor to not overspray and poison out my dandy crop. I have a nice crop of dandelion for salads. This idea of yours is a new plan. As I have the same splitting of my thumb tips and fingers. From the 👍. Best

Yes. Great salve/balm. Save those small altoid tins and the like to make a small batch to put in the bug out/ get home bag, too. Or just in a jacket pocket. Not an inside one or it will melt.

When we lived in the city my neighbor told me she loved looking over into our yard because it looked "like a grandma yard". Between the clothes line, the flower, bed, the garden, all the fruit trees, and the weeds that I purposely left in place, it brought back good memories of my Granny's yard too.

How blessed 😊 I just moved to a rural area and my older (50s to 70s) neighbors keep hinting at or outright telling me how much they don't like our yard. Clothesline, garden, weeds as far as the eye can see...sigh. They're still fast asleep with no intention of waking up.

I've made many different balms, but never dandelion balm-I will now!! My mother always made dandelion jelly, and I carried on the tradition-dandelion jelly is awesome!! I go out in the mornings and gather about 2 cups of dandelion leaves, put then in the Vitamix along with a quart of filtered water and drink it!! There's nothing like free medicine!! I thank you for this video, and for giving me another use for dandelions!!

Great use of an otherwise widely overlooked natural resource. I cannot recall the last time I saw a dandelion growing in our property. Never do any lawn treatments, they just don't seem to naturally occur here.
@truthhurtz27932 ай бұрын
I once read that dandelions grow in soil that id calcium deficient. The long tap root carries up calcium to the leaves, the leaves die and deposit the calcium onto the topsoil.
@briarpalek92542 ай бұрын
@truthhurtz2793 That is interesting. Other lawns in the area here have dandelions. Ours offer up puffballs in the fall to eat instead.

Great demonstration MR, thanks! If you've never tried it, dandelion root extract (a few drops in a glass of water taken each day for several days) makes a great Spring "liver tonic" and can help a person quickly eliminate toxins from their body. In my case, it helped me better recover from the effects of the general anaesthesia I was given back when I had major surgery many years ago. Good stuff!

Excellent video!! I’m looking forward to making some soon. I’ll probably add some comfrey in, because I love my homemade comfrey salve for moisturizing and soothing my hands. I bet a few drops of oregano oil or a capsule of Vitamin D oil would be a nice addition, as well.

True herbal conscious Peeps, stay away from processed oils, like Sunflower, Vegetable, Safflower, Olive Oil and I hear even Grapeseed Oil. Avocado Oil, Help Oil, Beef Tallow are the best. Tallow is a firm fat, when cold, so little beeswax is needed. I like Hemp because it is high on Omega 3. Most people are very low on Omega 3. Avocado Oil is great for fats and not going rancid.

Thank you! I was wondering if you know anything about using elderberry leaf for medicinal uses? Found this info from the UK~ The leaves are some of the first of the trees to appear after winter and are used in ointments for bruising, sore muscles and chilblains. When applied topically, they appear to break down bruises and work as an anodyne or relaxant to relieve pain. They are not used internally, only externally due to their content of toxic cyanogenic glycosides including sambunigrin.. Do you have a recipe for dandelion wine?
@ModernRefugee2 ай бұрын
I don’t have any experience with elderberries. I have a country wine video. That video shows how I was taught to make wine. For the three pounds of fruit you would use as many dandelions as you can find with any green removed. Then you supplement the flowers with some citrus fruit ( lemons & oranges ) and white raisins to equal the three pounds of fruit.

Me and the baby collected dandelions every morning after feeding the chickens for about a 2 week period. I put them in a bag in the freezer because I wasn't sure how I wanted to use them. I'll be giving this balm a try. Looks like an easy one. Thanks!
