Danu's Irish Herb Garden

Today I am straining out my Dandelion tincture and the Dandelion flower oil and I will answer the various questions that came up from the last Dandelion video.
Herbal medicine is simple and effective and is the people's medicine. If you would like to learn more about it have a look at the website at the courses I offer - www.danusirishherbgarden.com. One course, an Introduction to Herbal Medicine is a digital course so anyone can take this regardless of where they live.
My other offering is the Wise Woman Way training - this can also be found on the website and is a transpersonal course that follows the Celtic Wheel of the Year. Using druidic and shamanic techniques we connect deeply with the plant spirits for healing and wisdom.
My books are for sale from the shop at www.danusirishherbgarden.com
Thanks to Lol for the editing and the music. You can find Lol here on KZfaq / @lolhardiman5247 and also here
lolhardimanmusic.com/
With regard to making tinctures, here is a link to my other tincture making video - • Stocking Up For Winter
And here is another video taking things one step further • Making A Herbal Formula
I use the same method for every plant I tincture. If you intend to make any tincture and you cannot tolerate alcohol, use an organic Apple Cider Vinegar instead and make it in exactly the same way. You can also pick up some glycerin and make a glycerite by putting the plant in a jar and adding 50% water and 50% glycerin.
Alcohol is traditionally used because it draws out the plant constituents for healing. The dose is a tiny amount - we do not drink the tincture as if it were a beverage or a cocktail - we take a few drops to half a teaspoon to a teaspoon depending on age and size. For a child, use as little as 3 drops up to 30 drops as they get older. For elderly people dose is less than for an adult, half a tsp and an adult can use 1 tsp and take the medicine two to three times per day. Obviously every person and situation is different so use common sense.
Here is a link to the video making salves. It is the exact same recipe for any plant material. • Soothing Salves for St...
Thank you for watching and have a great week! xx

It is so sad how much "common sense" is lost today. Most folks today didn't grow up as we did - in nature, with parents and grandparents who followed the old ways. I am glad to see so much interest last few years for this information. That is why channels like yours are so important. Many blessings and have a great week.

I was a volunteer at a co-op- it was a permaculture farm. (I was informed by a friend that they were using traditional techniques there that she had used on her family farm growing up in Vermont). I asked a question about the dirt and I was gently corrected that it is soil, not dirt. This distinction was noteworthy because the two words and their meanings have been used interchangeably giving the wrong impression. Thanks for your contribution to our education.

I recently had my yearly physical and my Dr. wanted an ultrasound on my kidney and bladder. I have had PERFECT physicals for years! So I gave myself 1 month of healing time BEFORE the test. Dandelions paved the way to a perfect test! (Fresh greens, tinctures, and tea). Thank you Terri and Lol for the Basic Herbal Course!!

There does seem to be an obsession with washing absolutely everything. I wash very little that I harvest for my own use. I too choose plants that are already clean and in good condition. One thing that I don't think was mentioned, though it may have been and I missed it, is that washing flowers in particular will wash away the pollen and all of its medicinal properties. I think people just assume that everything outside is dirty, and it's not.

I love this video Danu. Isn't it odd and sad that most people think Nature/Natural Remedies are inherently dirty or bad or untrustworthy? I offered a woman a magnificent fresh tomato from my greenhouse, and she insisted that I wash it, scrub it, and that was the last time she was allowed to set foot on my property. She did the same with chicken eggs which over here, were in very short supply and hugely expensive. Apparently, she'd never realized that eggs come from the rear-end of a chicken! I have a big crop of huge dandelions this Spring, and I will make your tincture and thank you for teaching us! I love the cat on the roof & dogs.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom. I've been eating large dandelion salads daily since watching your other video about them a few weeks back. I made vinegar tincture with the root that is used in my vinaigrette. I'm supporting my liver and kidneys to detox as I rebuild my adrenal and thyroid glands which got very fatigued and sluggish during covid. I am enjoying the increased feeling of well being.

Oh Terri, she's my top favourite ! Because I live in the city, I could never find' clean ' dandelions. After planting seeds for 3 yrs I finally have them growing in my yard. The infused flower oil works wonders on the occasional back ache. The leaves are cooked like any other greens. I haven't tried the whole plant recipe but that's next ! You are amazing in what you do for us . Green blessings and love to you, Lol, and the fur babies 💜🐾🐾🍃🌱

We really have been indoctrinated in these modern times to think nature is “dirty” and will make us sick. The truth is the exact opposite. I remember people saying things like”eat dirt and die” when they were angry at someone. But I think we might benefit greatly if we eat a bit more dirt 😂 and LIVE! Thank your for your videos. If I would have started/completed the British Naturopathic course, or that of John Christoper of Utah Naturopathic course, I would have had my thesis on the dandelion. The properties of dandelions are immense. They are signals of soil condition, the 2+ species of wooly or smooth leafed dandelions are more than just blood cleansers, detoxers, immunity factors, nervine, enzymatic processes, and other such organ, glands, and endocrines functions are worked by dandelion compounds.

Instead of the alcohol-method of tincture extraction - there is always the process of cutting up, blendering, and then fully steaming the plant and root materials, breaking open the cell structures (just like Asian steam cooking). This save all calories and nutrition - vs cooking, baking, etc destroying up to half or more of the natural properties of the eaten food or herbal mixtures. Just like using a steamer or steam-juicer with Pacific Northwest berries for berry juice or berry jam, all of the cellular plasma and ingredients are extracted from the plant material, then filtered and pressed for maximum product. Then use this, air-dried, even freeze-dried, for a gooey liquid tar tincture, fruit leather-like product. Otherwise, one could use slow-and-low dehydration in indirect sunlight (no direct sunlight X rays, UV A and B or other radioactive rays on the product and destroying it) and air flow dry out the juice into a concentrated tincture. This tincture oil can also then be processed and diluted with any apple cider vinegar, olive oil, (or wine) bases. Apple cider vinegar is also great (do not use white distilled vinegar as it is too chemically harsh and acidic). Apple cider vinegar (ph 2-3) is a natural product while white distilled vinegar (ph 2.5) is considered an anti-bacterial household cleaning product (!). Also a red wine or white wine base has different properties with the dandelion tincture. Red wine and tannins intensify the deep herbal compounds and oak barrel flavors - while white wine accentuates the high herbal compound and barrel-maturint flavors. If one really was to do some slow and low heated-processing of dandelion spagyrics (plant alchemy), then a properly prepared dandelion spagyric would be turned back into its constituent primal base of chemical salts, sugars, and alcohols, for an extreme tincture and homeopathic compound.

Thank you for sharing this information. I wasn't aware that the apple cider vinegar infusions would last for up to a year (obviously using good quality organic vinegar) and to use it in salad dressings also! Have a wonderful week.
