Thanks Don’z, agreed and it don’t matter what brand or what type of product, any lithium type battery has risk due to their nature for sure.

Back when cell phones still had user-replaceable batteries I've had several that swelled up and gotten puffy after a few years and needed replacing. But advice taken: never leave any rechargeable batteries unattended/unwatched while they're charging, especially LiON ones.

Another reason I won’t change the batteries in modern phones for people other than family, then things are sometimes really hard to get out without almost puncturing or bending extremely. I know a guy that does it for the public and he had one ignite while trying to get it out.

I was watching a news video and an interview with a fire fighter and they were saying how lithium fires are on the rise, and it is not just the lithium polymer from the RC hobby but lithium ions in phones and HTs too. They are everywhere and in everything.

Yep, see those where people’s phones, battery banks, or vapes ignite in their pockets and they can’t get them out is scary.

howdy brother long time to see. yes your right i am also into RC crawler trucks and run lion battery's. i have a couple Baofeng and wouxun battery's not taking a charge so time to chunkem!! stay safe

Talk about risks, I just had a fire on the remote station because of a faulty old fan that burned completely. Fortunately the others equipments are fine, but had to take everything down for the moment.

Oh man, yeah I also have a small 120v fan that I make sure I turn off after seeing video of those catch fire. Glad the other equipment was okay.

OEM battery or from a third party? And from what brand radio?

Oem battery , brand new out of the box. Company did send new properly working to replace it. At that point the responsible thing for me to do would have been to dispose of the bad one properlyof trying to fix it.
