As a newbie, was shocked to find how common regumming is. Then realised that pre-WW2, virtually all mint stamps would have been hinged, because they had no other way. Only blocks would have escaped, if later separated. After a while, thought: is it really worth paying 3 or 4 times the price of a "lightly hinged" to get a "never hinged", when the latter could well be a regummed fake? Decided it isn't worth it for me, the front of the stamp is what matters so happy to get a mint light hinged (for 100 + year old stamps , of course) for a quarter the price and most likely genuine. Any 1840-1930 never hinged is "guilty until proven innocent", to my inexpert eyes! (and that will save money). And after only a few months trawling EBay, you can see that there are sellers with mini-careers adding fake overprints and cancels. As this video says, if it's easy to to and adds value, someone will do it.

I thought the forging of rarer British official stamps may have come up. I've seen quite a few on eBay where it looks as if the official overprint has been placed over the cancellation.

What got me onto this was fake UK postage stamps on Amazon. Why would you think about buying stamps on Amazon. !!!

Very useful, this made me take another look at my own collection. Does anyone know if there’s a known forger called “RICHTER”, I have an 1840 2d blue with this name impressed in blue on the back. The cancel is 4 in a diamond, London I believe. What makes me suspicious is that the cancel is quite central and fairly heavy but also part of another cancel on the left of the stamp, just clipping but making that part of the cancel very heavy and could be hiding part of a Maltese Cross. Would be nice to know. I’ve Googled this and there are lots of high value stamps out there with this mark but nothing definitive about the origin.

This could have been a great video. Very interesting topic and importent information to know. but, the guest speaker was hard to hear, do to poor accoustics (to much reverberent or echo) which made the sound muddy and unclear at times. But, I put up with it, because he had some really cool information. Then I start to notice, at around the 10 minute mark that he has this annoying habbit of saying "Umm" and or "Ahh" at the begining of every sentence. I had to bail out. That and the muddy sound was to much to take. P.S. I've read the comments below, and I found it very odd that no one mentioned this annoying speech habit, that went on and on. Strange indeed.

Completely unwatchable. He constzntly skips over things and says he already covered it, the audio quality sounds worse than a ww1 field recording, and the "uhhhhhhhh" every 3rd word is so grating on my ears.

#1 stamps don't cover up just smeared fresh in Post office #2 shades spots are normal not copy of stamp Rembrandt l can paint & will look like original hehe
