I wish I had been playing. That would be less embarrassing. I was backing up and dropped a tire off the side and panicked. I tried to drive across what I thought was shallow and ended up dipping my front right corner too deep into the water and sucked water into my air intake. I love the DBBB tho and went back this year and finished the trip.

Hi there! I appreciate your interest. I’m just a guy who documents these trips so my elderly mom can see what fun adventures I’m having. I didn’t have to fight with Allstate, they didn’t ask for any details. I told them I ran through water that was too deep and flooded the motor, which was not a lie. The trails on the DBBB are county roads so technically I was not off-roading. I have no-fault coverage on my policy so they wrote me a check for current market value. It was fair. As for what happened, I was backing up and got a wheel off the sandy waters edge and started to tip so I drove nose first into the deep end trying to make it 10 yards to shallow water. When I turned into the water my front right hood submerged and since that’s where the air intake is it sucked in water. I did everything wrong. It was my 4th trip of the year in my ‘21 4R daily driver and my first mistake. I got another ‘21 4R that I modified the same way, mild again, since it’s also my daily. I’ve taken this one to Badlands here in Indiana and back to the DBBB for a redemption run last month, with more trips planned to Silver Lake Dunes in MI next month and CO and Moab UT in July. I live in Indiana so we don’t get out as much here as I’d like. 2 years ago I switched from over 2 decades leading groups of Harley riders to mild overlanding & off roading for a different challenge and loving it. @@mikeevansadventures453 Well that sounds like the best case ending for what I'm sure was a stressful time. Glad you were able to get back in a 5th gen and get back out there! I feel you on the daily driver part - my wife dailies ours then we enjoy it together on the weekends so the modding process will be slow and purposeful. Ha! Yea! You’d think so, right? But knowing how I made the mistake I hope I won’t make it again. I dipped my right front fender and hood under water and that was that.
