All respect to Charles but if people were quick to say “Khabib retired to avoid Charles Olivera” wouldn’t it now make sense Charles Olivera became a champion because Khabib retired. Khabib didn’t even need to come out of retirement to prove there is levels.

@@kallepikku4991 Don't blame Charles' loss on BJJ. It is an extremely refined skill. Charles is just way too aggressive and reckless for his own good, for the good of his next level BJJ. As pop culture Dirty Harry (played by Clint Eastwood) said: a man has to know is limits. There are actual things called game planning. You can't approach to fighting a next level wrestler whose wrestling is a perfect combination of elite BJJ, Division I, elite Judo... like you would approach fighting an pure stand-up guy like Gaethje, Dustin et al. THAT is Charels problem: he doesn't have a head coach who could say NO to him on every thing he wants to do. If you hire 50 people to help you, like he does, and you don't listen to any of them... it's a waste of money. Someone should have told Charles, during the training and game planning: "Hey, we can't go at this guy like we did against Dustin or Gaethje. Against pure strikers, when we threaten them with aggression and next level BJJ, they don't wan to stick around, for a clinch. But against a next level wrestler like Islam, we HAVE to be moderate and conservative in our approach... that way, Charles MUCH LONGER REACH could be put to use optimally in striking exchange..." Someone should have said that to Charles! And if so, his BJJ would still be exceptionally dangerous, in addition to his stand-up game. But due to the lack of planning or discipline, Charles handed to Islam ALL THE MOST OPTIMAL chancs and opportunities Islam asked for... moving toward him all the time, so clinch could happen every other moment... You clinch up against an elite wrestler whose wrestling has elite JUDO as foundation, he could take you down in many ways!: pure standing wrestling or pure Judo throws or foot sweeps, or other destabilizing skills ... because the Judo guy knows how to grip properly as well as how gravity/balancing points work... even if you're also a good wrestler, like Charles is...

Islam showcased really good improvements in his striking. His grappling and wrestling are already as elite as it gets, and he's getting better in those areas! If he progresses at the same pace or faster with his striking, then Islam will for sure become the number one pound for pound fighter.

The media created such a hype for Charles that people started seeing it as the biggest fight of the year in the making. The fact of the matter is that the two fighters were at different levels and the results show it. I think DC understands MMA better than most people and his details on the fight are very accurate and precise. Dana is right when he says that the question now is how Islam takes the pressure all through his title defense fights. Can't completely rule out Charles though seeing his last three fights before Makhachev.

I had always believed that Islam Makhachev is the greatest lightweight in the UFC because kingmaker "Khabib had said it" and now I believe that Islam is the number 1 best pound for pound fighter in the UFC because "Khabib has said so". These European and American passive aggressive haters can't do anything other than witnessing the greatness of Dagestani fighters. These haters say Islam & Khabib boring because they make them look wrong in the end about everything what they say earlier. They make these fighters look as easy fights. These passive aggressive haters feel depressed, defeated, disturbed, devastated, infuriated and hopeless after watching every fight of Islam & Khabib. They hate to give credit to these guys what they deserve from the beginning and it will be like that even after this but it doesn't matter at all. Now Champion has a name and it is Islam Makhachev.

It’s clear that Khabib is make a run for picking up where his dad left off and solidifying his place as a coach and from what I understand is compiling savage team of fighters to tie on the mma world. The team has some real strict guidelines. Pray, train, sleep, pray, rest, train, pray, watch fight film. Pray, cardio, sleep. Repeat. 7 days a week

Remeber the name Arman Tsarukyan. It was arguably Islams toughest fight in his last 4 fights, which was also Arman's debut. Arman's last fight was against Gamrot who many thought he shouldve won that decision. Once Arman inevitable climbs to #1 contender, this rematch vs Islam will be amazing..assuming Islam still holds that belt. Also, am I the only one who would rather see Islam fight Dariush rather than Volk? Dariush being disrespected and slept on left and right. Give the man a title fight already.

@@Jmansummers true but i think he gets it done. My Lightweight ranking atm is 1. Islam 2. Dariush 3. Tsarukyan 4. Gamrot 5. Oliviera 6. Gaithje/Porrier/Chandler ...any given night any of these fighters can win but this is how I see it realistically. Using eye test, top 4 will beat Gaithje, Porrier and Chandler even though atm theyre all ranked above
