yeah it's just too bad most the movies weren't all that great other than Casino Royale. haven't seen No Time to Die yet of course. Brosnan had the same problem. he was really good as the character, but other than Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies, the movies with him were pretty bad.

Not to say Craig is bad or anything , he is a real good fit for this generation, I just feel like Dalton was the perfect fit for that period of time.

@@jeffduncan9140 Brosnan's films , they are good , but somehow they remind me of elevator music , kind of helps you pass the time but nothing you truly miss if it's gone. Sure , Dalton only did 2 but they were big ones both of them, especially LTK. Unique film among the 25. That ending scene with the Patti LaBelle song and the fish by the pool giving the audience one final wink ... Goodbye 80s.. a beautiful , happy but bittersweet moment and at the time , I thought Dalton is the guy who leads Bond into the 90s...we don't know how it's gonna be but come what may ....Oh God those moments and the atmosphere.

Original Bond actors were tall, dark, handsome and capable of portraying a British _officer_ of a certain class. A short, blonde common little squaddie who alludes to homosexual encounters whilst facially looking like a Norman Wisdom/chimp hybrid and the posture to match is simply not James Bond.

My thoughts exactly. As a kid, I loved the tongue in cheek adventuring of Connery's and Moore's Bonds. But I think Craig is the ultimate Bond, and for me the series dies with him exiting the stage.

This is true I grew up on bond movies and I am even starting a restaurant called Dr O next to the Golden eye resort ,I hated the first Daniel but now am going to miss him he grew on me

Good point, I think Daniel Craig’s bond was the closest thing to what Ian Fleming wrote about in his books. Constant internal conflict with his emotions and carrying out cold acts for his work showed really well in this iteration of James Bond. The cold and almost lifeless at times character showed love and emotion and had to deal with losing that. All the previous bonds kind of felt like he was an untouchable badass always saving the world.

​@@NB-xh3ic Right. For me it made me root for him as a character more genuinely because we were given those glimpses into his emotional turmoil. Even giving significant screen time to his alcohol dependency in a more sombre light was enough to relate to him more honestly than any of the previous Bonds.

@epiphany55 yeah it’s funny you bring up the alcoholism, as it is a serious problem for the character, but previously it was a cute accessory.

Casino royal is the only reason i started liking bond movies otherwise they were like so cinematic and very boring

Brosnan was the best bond, he encapsulated the role of what poster boy bond is. He’s so charming and cocky and it he fits the role perfectly Craig for me is how bond would be in real life, a bit like Christopher’s Nolan’s Batman was done as if it were real

I feel kind of sorry for them (even with the millions of dollars they'll inevitably earn). I really hope it doesn't flop post-Craig and they can successfully reinvent the character. Post-Brosnan, people were hungry for a new Bond. I don't feel so much of that hunger this time.

Well, its is going to be a woman and its known who she is. I think it is a good step but in the wrong direction. Its going to be very difficult for her to "fill those shoes". To many things that we associate with Bond that wont be there any more. I just hope im wrong.

Being a woman and an actor, I support new great roles for women. However, James Bond is a male character and I sincerely hope the producers keep the role as a male character. It won’t be right otherwise…

Great insight. Connery was cold blooded from the start (Dr No "You've had your six."). Subsequent Bonds were cute, cheeky or cute-trying-to-be-tough. Craig brought it back to full on tough guy status.

I’m much older. My dad took me to see the first 5 Connery Bond films when I was a kid. I remember Rosa Klebb’s shoe knife, the Bond attaché case, Goldfinger sucked out of a tiny jet window, the hijacking of atomic bombs, and ninjas storming a volcano fortress. I remember the theaters, what snacks I had during the movies, vending machine soda in a cup, and just being together. Thanks for the opportunity to bond, 007. RIP to your dad, and mine.

I was, most of us Bond fanatics were. However very few had any issues after the opening scene of Casino Royale. I remember thinking after that scene ended in the theater opening night "This guy is James Bond!". Little did i know the whole movie was going to be in most peoples' top 5 Bond movies of all time!

Hence I love Daniel Craig’s series. They humanised James Bond. He is my favourite Bond and so is Skyfall.

The pinnacle of cartoonish actually was during the Roger Moore era who never took himself too seriously in his role as James Bond. Even though I've lost interest over time in the franchise, I must admit that Craig gave a dramatic dimension to the character that was otherwise lacking in other movies.

Roger Moore had a cartoonish quality, Lazenby was brilliant. Connery superb, but apart from a dip in the 80's where technology was centre, and the Bonds suffered as a result, I have liked all of them.

Totally accurate I think that the tone of the films has changed. I liked the Connery films even with the tongue in cheek. Yes, it got ridiculous with Moore. It now resembles more of a true spy film in tone. I quite like the new direction.

They just copied the Jason Bourne formula because that was the formula that worked for audiences at the time (they even ripped off the editing and fast cuts from Bourne films and used the same technique is QoS) Let's not pretend they did something really special. They ripped off another franchise and made Bond a generic action hero. No gadgets, no larger than life villains, a super serious Bond. His Bond was no different from any other action hero like Liam Neeson in Taken for example. Just a guy running around with machineguns. Hope they'll reinvent Bond the PROPER way now instead of the Lazy way. Bye Daniel 👋

Not sure why there has to be a 'best' Bond. Connery had a great acting career outside the Bond movies, very charismatic man. Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, George Lazenby, Timoth Dalton also very good in their own eras. I'm missing one or two there? People have their own favourites and it'd be a sad world if we all agreed on everything. Just enjoy the movies for their escapism and magic.

I think "they" blew it. A LONG time ago they should have written a script where they brought back some of the former Bonds out of "retirement" to work with whomever the current Bond was and did a film where they were all chasing down several different "villains". They could have just said they were former agents and given them different numbers or if Bond number 7 is just handed down from a previous agent, they could have all been 007's. A good script and it could have made billions.

I think his gritty Bond completed the dimensions we have seen through the years of actors. Craig is the zenith of Bond, so to speak. I used to believe that Brosnan was the best until I realised that he too had added a significant dimension to the character, and with Rose tinted glasses, he still is a crucial figure in the 007 enterprise. With all the facets of Bond now complete in my view, the only thing I believe we can expect to see from a new Bond, is actually a new character - a new type of Bond.

Definitely the best.

Plus he also gets bruises & injuries...whereas earlier bonds looked invincible. He's more close to reality.

In a lot of ways his Bond is the closest to Ian Fleming's book version of Bond who was a borderline psychopath and a definite alcoholic. Fleming's OG Bond has been described as a thug in a tuxedo

The Craig bond films also had much, much bigger budgets, better CGI, just bigger and better production than ever. Craig was a beneficiary of that.

Same. I saw Casino Royale on Netflix so I thought I'd give it a shot. Was not expecting it to be one of the best movies I've ever seen. It completely blew me away and I became an instant James Bond/Craig fan because of that movie.

It was so refreshing seeing a bond film without all the crazy technology. And Mads Mikkelsen as the villain was a perfect match! Casino Royale is my favourite bond movie.

Craig is absolutely believable as the ultimate hunk, if you're blind.

But something about Daniel Craig’s version just appeals to me most. Maybe it’s just the writing, but I think he brings a unique quality to past iterations of the role.

In my opinion, he was not fantastatic. He is THE BEST. Don't think I will ever watch any Bond movie at the theatre after this. His Bond will be a tough act to follow.

I thought both skyfall and Spectre were much better movies than casino Royale. All the Texas holdem poker stuff was so cheesy to me. Mads Mikkelsen was a good villain in it though. Dr. No and Goldfinger are probably my favorites of all time other than Skyfall and Spectre.
