I'm so glad Hobi wasn't a secondary antagonist. In so many movies the "other guy" that the girl mentions always one ups the MC, and by the end turns out to be a complete loser are evil Villain. But in Spider-Verse Hobi showed off that He was smart (made his own multiverse watch) He was caring (left and came back to join team Save Miles) He was cool (needs no explanation) Hobi is definitely my favorite Spider-Man. In the comics, Hobie was an American who rallied against and overthrew the U.S. president (Norman Osborn, who was obviously inspired by Trump at the time), so it makes sense that the British version would hate and rebel against the prime minister. It’s also kind of funny because he’s closest to Pavitr, who also resents the British government.

As a British person it was so cool seeing a character talk in a recognisable accent, most British characters in American media have their accents modified and softened and made more posh to be understandable and recognisable to Americans and a lot of the time they don't even sound British anymore. Even though it's not my accent it was just awesome to hear that, also just the art style, the punk references everything was so British and it was awesome.

As an English person it was just so cool to see a character in a big blockbuster film be so British. Most of the films we get in Britain are American, we have our own film industry but nothing with the budget of Hollywood, and I'm so used to seeing Britain through the lens of an American perspective and there's always a slight frustration of "that's not right" but you don't get that with Hobie. He is incredibly British in the best ways from the art style to the punk references to his anti establishment attitude he embodies some of the best things and the best people my country has to offer and is just the best character I've seen in a while. Most British characters you see in American media are posh, refined, and often they are part of the establishment, in some government role, and in reality the majority of working class British people, aka most of the country, hate the establishment and make shitting on politicians a national sport. We even hate our own political parties a little, especially when they're in power. It's just great seeing a character embody that sentiment. Sorry for the rant lol.

@prettyrat.9 ай бұрын
I mean… yeah it’s not ‘the same’ but most people don’t sound exactly the same all the time?? Sometimes I sound more ‘MLE’ and sometimes I don’t, that’s what happens when you move around the city lmao. Like unless you were born and raised in one neighbourhood and never ever left even for work or school, you’re gonna pick different things up. I grew up using terms like ‘taking the mickey’ and ‘donkey ears’ before I even knew what cockney rhyming slang was, and I’m not cockney at all, I’m just a Londoner lmao. Not everyone’s gonna sound like one specific stereotype 100% of the time, most people don’t. If I met someone like ATSV’s Hobie Brown who sounded just like that, I wouldn’t clock any ‘forced’ cockney accent at all, he’d just sound like a guy. Are *you* actually from London?
