Robbie's first solo record was an absolute masterpiece. RIP, Mr. Robertson.

The opening song, Fallen Angel, is one of my top 20 favorite songs of all time.

Still one of my favorite songs. It embodies all things Indigenous. Peter Gabriel's voice is so haunting.

A Peter Gabriel/Sting vibe. I dig it, sounds like a real bass lol.

What a great solo record. All the subtle touches make it what it is. Manu, Gabriel, and of course Robbie.

With Manu Katche’s groove, Levin on Bass, and the overall sonic vibe this sounds like an outtake from Peter Gabriel’s “So” album.

The entire album was perfection, but Fallen Angel always chokes me up.

Brings back memories of when that came out. Gives me the chills to hear it again. I never knew what it was about, but it was certainly something special. Listening to it is like watching a team of painters creating a masterpiece before your eyes, or ears. This coincided well with Peter’s soundtrack of “The Last Temptation of Christ”, both which I listened to religiously. So fortunate to have been in my 20s when this music came into existence. What an experience!

If you like Robbie’s first album, you will love the follow-up, “storyville”, which is amazing, esp. “soap box preacher”

God, it's just so good to hear this...No forgetting the first time I heard it when I was fifteen. Drew something out of my soul immediately....Mystical....Lost for words...I don't want to point out any one thing I love so much about it, because it's the way it all comes together....Holy... Sacred Music...Nothing better.

Terrific. Some of my favorite sounds ever recorded come from Lanois. Fortunate enough to see him live back in 1995 with Darryl Jones on bass and the remarkable Brian Blade on drums. Their performance of Robbie Robertson’s ‘The Weight’ was stellar.

Great album, song is heartbreaking. I didn't know Daniel Lanois was involved w the album. I was just listening to Lanois, Acadie yesterday. Think I'll play it again today .

One of my favorite all time albums.

Elvis Costello apparently didn't like the album when it was released. He had hoped it would sound more like Robertson's work with The Band. Even musicians can tend to pigeon-hole one another. Whether it's what one expected from Robbie Robertson or not, it's a stellar piece of work in every sense. Superb songwriting, performances, engineering, mixing and production. There are no throw away tracks on that album, but Fallen Angel is certainly a standout.

Even if I never meet these characters, there out there and they always enrich my life whether they make art or bag the groceries. We are surrounded by genius and good souls but it is up to us to take notice and appreciate the beauty. Music, like a good story is unique in its effect though. If ever I’m low, stuck in some form of grief, I know a record I can put on that can tap into whatever emotion I need to stew in or escape from. That is the beauty of this medium. Only Daniel could improve on the masterpiece that was Robbie Robertson But Daniel did that with every musical genius he met. I remember a time in the 80s when I looked at all the albums I had in heavy rotation. They all had one thing in common Daniel. Even for artists I'd loved for years it was Danny's touch I wanted to hear . Rip RR , one more and you can be God's Band instead of Bob Dylan's! I'm convinced all great musicians have a pass key to heaven. It's part and parcel of the mysterious ways and miracles you hear tell about 😉 God bless RR and God bless DL.

I loved that record. Robbie was a forward thinking artist that was big part of the history of popular music.I read at one point he wanted to collaborate with Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins on this LP

Lanois extracts the essence of an artist. I made a Band radio documentary, spoke to Robbie (pure class), but if you're trying to describe the man, just play Big Pink and that eponymous album.

One of my favorite songs on that RR album. The song was not only about RICHARD but I think Robbie was channeling him on the vocal in parts of the song..but I do think it sounds like Peter Gabriel maybe a touch too much in feel and production ,he was on there I believe …

He has some old videos on here that I used to watch on repeat back when I was first learning about Jazz. I don't see much about him anymore though and I figured you would have to know who he is.

I’ve only recently discovered this album and loved it, especially after recently absorbing PG’s ‘So’ album which I also loved, it starts off like a missing track from it. It also made me check out Lone Justice.

Oh my, what a song indeed. I remember when this album came out. I simply could not believe it was made by the same "kumbaya folk" sounding guy from "The Band." Manu Katche, Tony Levin, Peter Gabriel, and Daniel Lanois; talk about a group of superheroes. This album came out of nowhere, really, and cemented Robbie as a legend from that day forward, at least in my heart and mind. I do wish this album was better known, recognised, and appreciated. Quite sad to hear of his passing.

I appreciate Robbie's contribution to THE BAND, indeed. But to me, his solo stuff sounds incomplete; as if it's missing something. That "something" could be THE BAND.

sounded good... but... nothing like The Band.. which makes me think that Levon was the music writer in the Band...robbie got the $$ but it's obvious Levon made the Band's music ..

(The tears ran down my face watching you listen to Fallen Angel with Daniel Lanois, reminding him how great his work is, and will always be). You're KILLING IT RICK! We love what you do!
