So nice to see Daniel Patrick Moynihan on television talking and making sense of Social Security. We need more people like him in Washington today!

@@Scarhandler Wait until you turn 62 before passing judgement. I know a lot of people my age (70) who didn't believe in Social Security. But that was before the companies they worked for screwed them out of their pensions, the crashes of 2001 and 2008 trashed their 401ks and IRAs, or their companies went bankrupt and they lost their pension plans. Do you have at least $100,000 in the bank? No? Well don't worry, the federal government can't go bust, it will always be there and you will receive your SS each month until you die. Senator Daniel Moynihan put the future of working class people first, and corporations last. Read up on his incredible life, and how EVERY politician he ever worked with said he was the smartest and most honest pol they had ever known!

Charming, smart, witty. It’s funny that no one - including Letterman and his audience - got the joke about his wife saying that the Irish maid now lives on the second floor of their house. She obviously was referring to herself.

Always liked watching Moynihan growing up in NY. We had Jacob Javits and Moynihan at the same time.

Thanks for this! My old boss. I got to intern for him in 1990. What an honour. Thank goodness he never accused me of floccinaucinihilipilification during my tenure.
