Wouldnt call the world of one piece very optimistic tho XD its just colorful.. but actually if you really look at it.. its pretty fuckedup lol. just imagine being born in the one piece world just as a normal person.. no powers or status.. and you hear all this shit on the news about these monsters clashing, pirates, corrupt slave trade supporting governments. we mostly just see it out of the straw hats perspective and think "everything will be ok at the end". but most normal people shitting their pants when they hear all their names.

Someone is not paying attention, One Piece World is as fucked up as Berserk or even more but you as a reader are basically reading the story from Luffy's POV. Every story in OP could easily fit inside a Berserk side story.

Uhhhh, Puck and Guts? You literally described their relationship during the black swordsman and lost children arc. Too bad, Miura completely butchered Puck character after Guts got a new group of friends though. I wish he's expand more on it.

If anything, Luffy can legit pull out a depressed person into a happy one. If he can do that to the others, why not Guts, considering Luffy is Luffy, he's most likely beat the living hell outta Griffith.

I argue they're really similar. Both raised by rowdy bandits/mercs, lost people they cared about, trained at a young age. The difference is that Luffy was loved and valued while Guts wasn't. This led Guts to close off his heart for a bit, before being conned into opening it again to the wrong person. Meanwhile Luffy never had to make that compromise and since he didn't, he's willing to rely on others. It doesn't hurt that he's also the boss and thus never had to deal with power over him the way that Guts did.

@@LupineShadowOmega nope there are more similarities between luffy and griffith the only difference is that luffy had shanks and griffith didn’t have anyone to look upto, shanks was good and strong and thats what luffy looked up to and tried to surpass that while Griffith only had a really dark world to look upto and himself which can really easily be send off course

@@gamers-xh3uc I disagree with most of that. The only similarity between Griffith and Luffy are their dreams. Both of them have this larger than life dream that no one can ever stand in their way of, but Griffith immediately makes this vow to stand on a ladder of corpses and no I'm not talking post torture Griffith where he was at his lowest, no. I'm talking Griffith as a child, he was ready to throw away innumerable lives, he just didn't care. So long as he got what he wanted. Meanwhile Luffy knows that it might take some dark things to make his dream come true, but at the end of the day his dreams are worth risking his life and the lives of his friends for, but its just that risk, one that everyone signed up for and everyone is benefitting from. Luffy's dream isn't worth sacrificing his friends to him and that's how he will always feel. Luffy puts loyalty before his dream, he puts friendship before his dream. In short, he's the Griffith that the Band of the Hawk would have wished for, but that doesn't make them the same. If anything they're like bizarro versions of one another and that doesn't some how invalidate the comparison to Guts, because Guts and Griffith are also similar, that's what makes characters foils of one another. Shanks made Luffy want to be a pirate, but he didn't make Luffy good, Luffy was always good. He wants to make Shanks proud, but he'd be the first person to lay him low if he thought he was harming people that Luffy cares about. Like Luffy likes to say, he isn't a hero, because in his mind heroes are selfless, but that's Luffy's big flaw, he'll never see how good a person he really is, but he'll face down hell itself for that goodness at the heart of him.
