Danny Hamel: AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame

Күн бұрынDanny Hamel accomplished much as an off-road racer: five-time AMA Hare and Hound national champion, multi-time Baja 1000 and 500 overall winner and more. Between 1977 and 1995, Hamel was the only rider ever named both as the AMA Amateur Athlete of the Year and AMA Amateur Sportsman of the Year in the same year.
Hamel died in June 1995 while racing the Baja 500 when a car strayed onto the road that was part of the course and Hamel collided with it.

I worked the sagerider national and got to see and hearDanny and Ty davis hard on the gas thru the trees then out into an open strait. It was unreal. I was 14yrs old. Got his autograph after the race. He died a few weeks later. I never forget the sound of that 500 coming from the distance.

Still hard to believe he is gone. Harder to believe that it has been 18 years. Miss that big guy!

I still ride Sand Hill on a regular basis and think of Danny each and every time. R.I.P. my brother.

Mike "Hodgey" Hodges... much love man. Love those photos Danny gave you to put on the wall. You can hear the admiration and love in your voice for your old friend - much more than just his mechanic thats for sure! ~ Mikeee P
