Oh. My. God. Thank you thank you thank you. I have been thinking about this for years. I’m a 35 year old man and I’ve just sobbed listening to this. The nostalgia. The memories. The gorgeous and magical story and at the root of it the unconditional love between father and son.

Hi there. Glad you are enjoying it, it is an awesome story. After many weeks of looking, I found the danny tape on ebay. Other than the few tapes I still had from my childhood, I have been scouring ebay for the last 8 months and have bought all of the other tapes throughout the year. It's turned into an expensive hobby, but it's definitely worth it just to get all these dramatisations archived in one place. Thanks for listening, MG.

Even though this is my least favourite Roald Dahl story (I like the plot and characters and Danny's relationship with his father), this was a wonderful adaptation and somehow it involved more than what the Puffin version did, like the bit with the eye-smile and Doc Spencer's revenge on Victor Hazell for assaulting his dog. Andrew Read was wonderful as Danny and completely different from the Boy in The Witches, demonstrating his talent. I especially Michael Williams' portrayal as his father and Richard Pascoe has a beautiful narrative tone. My only criticism is the casting printed. Mrs. Clipstone is obviously a female, so she should be credited at least. I think my favourite thing of the whole dramatisation is the music, it gives the feeling of the character being prideful of his title as champion of the world. Splendid adaptation.

What does it mean by adapted
@TheMonkeyGrinder3 жыл бұрын
"Adapted" is used in the same way as "dramatised" on a lot of these recordings. So it means the person who abridged the story down to the required timeframe and turned it into a radioplay format, including what sound effects/music cues would be used and perhaps how many cast members would be needed.
@paulharvey28513 жыл бұрын
Forget the current batch of badly written woke books, if a child is served a diet of Dr. Seuss, Roald Dahl and Lewis Carroll, they will return to these stories as adults and smile upon the fact that as kids they were surrounded by wise grown-ups who chose the infinite imagination over finite ideologies.
@TheMonkeyGrinder3 жыл бұрын
I loved being a child in the 1980s. I grew up on Roald Dahl, Dr Seuss and John Cooper Clarke among other things. I definitely have my parents to thank for surrounding me with such a variety of material.
