if you look carefully at the inside of the black panel that fits over the key side, you will see a picture of the key and you will see a little arrow. The panel goes on so that the drawing lines up with the actual key, and the 3 rectangular locking tabs that the arrow points to go in under their slots, then the panel is pushed a tiny bit towards the release button side so that they are in. At that point the other side of the panel is secured by getting it under the sliding release bar. This bar has 2 small hooks in it that fit around the very tiny little round knobs in the back of the panel. So it may be necessary to slide the release lever to move the bar to the open position, then press the back panel down, then release the lever. It can be kind of fussy. Another video for this shows the chrome end (the one without the release button) going on before the black panels, you have it going on last. I'm not sure if that makes a difference. It's probably a good idea to replace the battery in both your fobs at the same time.

I don't have that latch you slide in the beginning. Mine doesn't have any latches anywhere, just 4 buttons and a logo. CX5 2021

This is the kind of thing I'd be embarrassed to go to the dealer for, but why do they hide the battery like that? Crazy design.
