'Queen Victoria At Kensington Palace With Lucy Worsley'
BAFTA winning historian and Joint Chief Curator of Historic Royal Palaces Lucy Worsley takes Dan Snow on a tour of Kensington Palace, one of the principle royal residences since 1689. It was the childhood home of Queen Victoria, who was born on the 24 May 1819.
The rooms of the royal residence were renovated for an exhibition which opened to the public on the 200th anniversary of Victoria's birth.
So how did the young Victoria spend her time at Kensington Palace? And where was she at the moment she was declared queen?

She is absolutely brilliant. You can see her mind constructing elaborate tapestries of knowledge before she distills it all into a response that educates and guides people toward what her research has uncovered. She is a master teacher.
@karenryder6317

And the best part is that this master teacher won't sell her pupils a bunch of bunk. I think it is so confidence inspiring that she busts many of the traditional myths--like the "love at first sight" meeting with Albert. She researches until she finds substantial validation ("skewers it" in her words) for the facts like the hand holding while going down the steep stairs.

I was born on her birth day 20 years after Bob Dylan. Mom was French Canadian / Welsh. Dad's were loyalists from eastern Ontario who started exiting 1600's . Due to the queens embrace of fraternization among her subjects I have graves in two nations pioneer cemeteries, Notre Dame's on two continents. A cousin of some degree with same first name spelled with a G instead of J due to fact his dad spent time in old world and had son born in London England not Ontario. He was an architect. Much of the Victorian decor is eerily familiar to me. Thank you ever so much.

I love Lucy! Her special called "Victoria and Albert: The Royal Wedding" is absolutely smashing fun. You can't help but be fascinated by Victoria; the woman was quite remarkable, yet so very fragile. This was a woman who loathed pregnancy and babies while enjoying every part of making them. A woman who railed at the idea of losing one's sense of self and power to a man but loved having a strong, dominating man in her life to put her in her place. A woman who was jealous of her own children taking their fathers time, and being envious if they dared to like, let alone love each other.... What's not to enjoy learning about? She was quite the little character, ha!

Actually she wasn’t. In fact it came out about a year ago that Victoria had left so many diaries, that most historians have not read through all of them. It turns out that much of what we have been told about Victoria’s parenting actually came from the snarky snippets when she was having a hard time with her children. Historians are now going back in and reading her diaries and finding out that she was actually quite a loving and devoted mother, but that many male historians pulled out just the snarky tidbits when she was tired and frustrated with her children! Also, Victoria loved sex, she just didn’t like being pregnant! It caused her to put on so much weight, as she was small in stature, and it also slowed down her capacity to exercise. She has been quite an avid horse woman and exercise walk her, but the medical thought of that day was that a pregnant woman should not exercise, hence, she gained so much weight.

As a non-architect, I must say I was fascinated also by the very same thing. At times, my eyes were trying to "fill in the gap" with the back wall but no - as the camera moves, one can see the very striking thinness/lack of vertical depth of the stair and one concludes that there's more than wood holding it up. It is, after all, called the Stone Stairs...
