Here we look at another unique boxcar from Athearn's primed for grime series. This is a unique model to weather because of it's stock patch work.

So great to wake up and see Dan has uploaded!! I'll watch while doing my 2-3 hour wait in the grain line. I find your techniques are some of the best. You have helped me become a good weathering modeler. Currently working on the Tangent 86' boxcars(L&N, PC).

A really good substitute for Testors dullcote is Krylon 1311. A lot more for almost the same price too.

That's what we've been using for a couple years - cheaper and just as good. I think it actually works great.

Awesome job as always Dan I always take the can and put it in a glass or bowl of hot water till the can is warm and it makes it spray alot nicer

Yup, I do that especially with glosscoat because it has to be as flat and even as possible. Dull you can get away with a lot because it's almost invisible.

Anita's was my fav but they went out of business or rebranded. Any thoughts on what other brand to use? Apple Barrel doesn't seem to have the same assortment especially with the rusty colors.

Dan, awesome video as always. What airbrush do you use? I am looking into getting an airbrush and it looks like you have good use of yours. Cheers.

I use a basic paasche duel action with a bottom feed cup. The compressor I have is set to 40PSI. I have used this same gun and compressor since 2016!

Dan I'm a little confused. Your using an acrylic oil paint but using mineral sprits for thinner. Can the Alcohol wash mix with the mineral spirits or do you use oil on the entire car instead of Anitas water colors?

Great work! Very inspiring! What kind of thinner do you use for the oil paint, and considering you use thinner, why do you buy water mixable oils instead of regular oils? Is there an advantage you find in water mixable oil paints?

When you mention using thinner what type/brand do you recommend? Or is just water used as thinner?
