During its prime, I consider it one of the greatest MMO experiences I have ever had to fortune to partake in. DAoC is like an old girlfriend from my youth. We had great times together, many fond memories, but both of us have changed too much to ever get back together again. Never realized those times I had would be once in a lifetime. I made so many friends who I'll never meet in real life. Don't know what you have till it's gone has never been so true. To DAoC, and all the veteran players, thank you for the good times and all the treasured memories. You are truly missed.

True. It was the 3 way RvR system I don't think it has ever been beaten. Remember back in the early 2000s there was a lot less choice on the market so we enjoyed a great constant player base until WoW came along.

Treasured memories indeed. And refering to your girlfriend comparison, the genius would be to be together again, despite the time and the changes. ; ) Just a way to prove that truest, most beautiful experiences in life are timeless and resist to everything. In my case, if DAOC vanilla was back, I'm quite sure I would be as excited as I was in 2002.

Watching this now, 20 years after starting DAOC on Albion on Galahad, I just had the chills as I had forgotten this music after all these years, yet as soon as it started I knew I was home! I live not far from the real Salisbury Plains and Stonhenge, but there is a part of me that will always be at home in Albion. Thank you for making this, love Kallisti the Minstrel and Kallora the Friar.

That is so cool that you live near this area. When I was a kid at school we had Salisbury steak days and I always thought of that when I was in this zone haha.

Still the best MMO of all times. It has something charming.

the pvp was, and still is unmatched. have played in 15 years or more, but i know EA butchered it
@dirtynoob2 жыл бұрын
@@pocketcalzone2262 Yeah, fuck EA. They destroy everything they touch. DAoC was a masterpiece in terms of gameplay of course, but above all ib terms of immersivity: music, ambient, art etc... also, all games have a legal radar nowadays. Thanks to WoW who set tge standard, they killed the exploration, the fun of discovering and remembering a territory... the difference between a newbie and a veteran. But i suppose new player generation is not nerd to play so much like we did with old school MMO. The life is changed for us all.

@@dirtynoob yeah it was my first mmo and freshman year in HS. What a time. The music brings me back. I still hold onto my Yahoo emails I sent to people I got to know on name basis. Dark falls raids were into the depths of hell and you needed like guides who know where to go, or get lost and die. My cabalist Sanesh will always hold a special place as my first 50. Grinding out to 50 at 2am on a school night. I still remember the dungeon. Some broken keep deep in the marshes of Avalon.Sigh, the feels 😭

@@dirtynoob "they killed the exploration, the fun of discovering and remembering a territory..." So true. WoW actually killed roleplay and immersion, and made of online RPG something mainly based on skills, unfortunately.

Such good memories... nostalgia like a hammer. The giants, the slaver camp, the mist as you run towards Stonehenge

Thank you so much for having this share with us. DAoC means so much to me and my best friends, and these musics bring back so many incredible memories.

I gotta reinstall the game and get the ToA underwater music and I gotta upload the forest. many of the sounds from albion also played in the other lands of hib and mid, so I won't be doing those

Salisbury Plains. Looks exactly how I left it. I remember trying to grind there when I was a Scout back when it first started. The hardest grinding experience of my life.

I love how "intelligent" sounds the music and how "intelligent", again, looks the graphic design ("intelligent" may not be the correct word to use but you may understand what I mean with this feeling). It's airy, shy, discreet, classic, not cartoony and maximalistic like many games today. I feel revitalized with this video thanks to the minimalistic and soft aesthetics, sublimated by the subtle, dreamy, acoustic music. : ) Really an enthralling artistic direction. More than just a game, DAOC was a singular experience for me. Thanks for this video.

I know exactly what you mean. The music was so wonderfully pensive and introspective. It was the perfect music for grinding those long, hard levels.
@Wolfiins3 жыл бұрын
yes, the whole of Daoc felt exactly how you described up until they started competing hard against Wow and started turning more and more cartoonish to try and appeal to that kind of playerbase. I remember in the old days when everybody was running around with guild emblem cloaks and minimal looking, not over the top armors... crazy immersive atmospheres...
@loupneige3 жыл бұрын
@@Wolfiins Indeed! WoW not only "killed" DAOC, but also killed the aesthetics of post-2005 games. A lot of studios started imitating Blizzard cartoonish style back in the days, and a big amount of role-playing games today still have this touch. I don't get it, I don't find it immersive at all. As you said, the minimal looking was interesting, and gave me a strong feeling of freedom. Less is always more.
