This is my review on the DAOK triple pedal unit for Yamaha digital pianos (DGX-670, P-515, P-125, P-121, P-225). The DAOK is a great portable alternative to Yamaha's LP-1 triple pedal, which requires that you buy Yamaha's wooden stand. And, the DAOK supports half pedaling!

This pedal seems to have lit a fire under Yamaha, because starting November they are offering a FC35 portable tri-pedal in Japan, explicitly boasting compatibility with the P-525, 225 and most importantly of all the PS-S500 "Smart Piano". Since S500 shares the same L300 stand & LP-1 as the DGX670, FC35 is highly likely to work with DGX670 too, though they don't say that because they don't sell the DGX670 in Japan for some reason. If it comes to Canada, you might want to check it out as something with full compatibility with the DGX while letting you use DGX on an X-stand.

It's about time Yamaha came out with a portable pedal - I'm hoping it's backwards compatible with the P-125 and DGX-670; the new P-225 still isn't on Yamaha's site in my country, so no idea when I would be able to get my hands on one of these but ill try to once they're an option. @@PianoTone I already have subscribed. I notice Yamaha USA has also updated their site to feature the FC35, and yes, they claim to support both DGX-670 and P-125. So maybe you can pick it up over the border.

Hi, Tony. I have DGX-670 and I also have LP-1. I just checked the issue you`ve mentioned. So... there is no problem at all with pedal unit. LP-1 works just like you`re expecting. No sustain when you set it up for start\stop function. No double articulation effect on guitar. But you`re right about the pedal pressure. I made my own stance for the DGX. It`s on wheels, so I can slide it under my computer desk when I don`t play it. When I`m trying to use the triple pedal unit, the sprigs are so stiff, that my wheel blockers can`t hold the stance. I`ve just replaced the hard springs with much softer ones . Luckely raplacing them is not too hard to do. Now the pedal are light and it`s much comfortable to use them. Thank you for your videos.

Hey thanks so much for doing that, really appreciated! DAOK was probably just making sure the sustain, soft and sostenudo worked well without all that extra stuff the DGX offers. Sounds like you made a great modification on your LP-1! Thanks for checking out the channel!

This shows there is a problem with the DAOK triple pedal unit. To test the DAOK, try using it to control the start-stop style, fills, and intro/outro. Same with other distinct functions such as Leslie speaker speed control when using other functions on other pedals. The DAOK pedal makes these functions happen on the wrong pedals (which they were not assigned to) and some functions overlap in ways that they are not assigned to. The internal circuitry of the DAOK is different than the LP-1 (I took it apart to inspect it) and that may be why it does not accurately mimic the LP-1.
@PianoTone
@PianoTone Жыл бұрын
@@glennmeader626 That's interesting that the internal circuitry is different (although not surprising since the right pedal on the DAOK has that unusual behaviour). For me, since the left and middle pedal don't have any unusual behaviour and I never tend to (or need to) change what the right pedal does, it works great for me, and has a better playing feel (to me) than the LP-1 that I returned did. Thanks again for visiting the channel!

The LP-1 pedal does not actually require the Yamaha stand as they advertise. The vertical bars on the LP-1 are easily removed, and the triple pedals can then be affixed to a floor plate of your choice. A KZfaq video shows how to do this, so you can have the LP-1 work as a portable pedal unit.

That is an option (if you want to go to the work of doing it), but for me it would also require removing and replacing the springs which I find too stiff. But if you’re into making modifications like that then yes, totally an option! Thanks for the comment and for checking out the channel

I don't know, but the DGX-670 drives me nuts. Good point about the spring pressure with the Yamaha pedal. It is too stiff. I modified my unit extensively which is described in another post under one of your videos. Do you have experience with the P-225?

Just the preliminary review I did just based on the specs (I think you’ve probably seen that); they’re not available in my country until end of 2023 (not even on the website yet). Spec review is here if you haven’t seen it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grqfhLqqztychWw.html

Hey! I bought the new Yamaha p-145 and I dont know if this pedal unit is compatible with this one, when I look at the pictures of the P-225 I think is the same port than in my P-145. Please help me with that, for not having to buy the wooden stand LOL. Thanks
@PianoTone
@PianoTone 8 ай бұрын
That's a great question - and my answer is - I don't know :) Yamaha has added a triple pedal unit port to the P-145 (wasn't on the P-45), but it doesn't list the LP-1 pedal unit as being compatible, but that may be since the 145 uses a different stand than the 225 does. Also, Yamaha has a new triple pedal that doesn't require the stand (FINALLY) the FC-35 (geni.us/66clwX8) but that is only listed as being compatible with the P-225. So if I had to GUESS? The port looks to be the same, I would bet that the FC-35 (and the DAOK) will work with the P-145, BUT I AM GUESSING and could be wrong. I will be reviewing the P-145 in the new year, so I will definitely test my DAOK pedal with it when I do. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe

Thanks so much for sticking with the channel! And I'm really hoping to get my hands on one a P-225 as well; it probably won't be until 2024 though (they still haven't even been announced in my country yet, and I'll have to wait until my store has them available for rent which might be awhile).

Very informative Tony. I’ve just order the DAOK Triple pedal. So now that I have the (Aux) available I was hoping to plug in a Yamaha Expression/Volume pedal for organ patches. I don’t see (volume or expression) settings in the control menu. Is this possible?
@PianoTone

Sorry - was this for the DGX670? If so, it's not compatible with expression pedals (would have been a huge add if it was!)
