Too much information said otherwise. That although the residue would burn out, the chemicals from it would simply burn into the metal and then release into any food that I would cook. In any case, better safe than sorry. It cost me an extra $15 and 2 days. But peace of mind is priceless. 😀

@@ConnerHomestead I know this was posted a long time ago, but maybe this is useful (unlike his comment). The "right way round" depends on which direction you're cutting. Since it's throwing sparks up, you did right in cutting the line down, however using the very front of the blade is what caused the kicking. Instead of plunging into it, try angling the grinder so it's tangential. At the 11:00 minute mark for example, it's more or less parallel with the ground, raised a little, when it's safer angled tangentially. If - were the cutting tool and O was the drum, instead of cutting like -O, try cutting like /O, you'll have more control. Hope this was helpful (even though it's three years down the line...)
