Dar Es Salaam City - Cost Of Living Tanzania Live
So in this video, I'm going to give a total calculation of how much cost of living I spend here in Dar Es Salaam City 2021, Tanzania. I'm going to do that and three ways:
1. Shopping.
2. Going out.
3. Bills.
So I'll try and keep it simple to those three things. If you want to add other stuff, that's up to you.
And don't miss the end of the video where I'll do a total cost per month cost of living calculation of how much roughly I spend here in Dar Es Salaam City 2022, Tanzania.
I know I live differently to some people, I'm British and all that stuff, but should still give you an idea how much it cost to live here.

Great video as always. I assume that this is made for expats planning to move here and who earn more than what most Tanzanians make. However, it’s definitely not the average cost of living. Most people in Dar do not make that amount of money per month let alone spend it on shopping, going out, rent etc. Most of the grocery shopping they do is in the markets and they spend significantly less than what was stated in the video for way more. The same applies for eating out and rent. It would have been much better if you had insisted that as much as it’s your average cost of living in Dar, it’s not for most people and mentioned like average incomes and all that so that they’d be a clear distinction.

I live in the UK and those prices in Tanzania were so expensive. I would never pay that much for food on some of the items but I hear what you were saying about not wanting to go to different places. £57 on the items you bought for just one person is a lot. That didn’t even include drinks, toiletries, snacks etc.
@najwaally1404
@najwaally1404 Жыл бұрын
They are, and it's mostly because the people who shop there are well of financially. Alot of the food items are imported from the UK, US or South Africa that's why its expensive. If you were to go to a local market you'd probably spend a tenth of what you'd spend in that supermarket.

I live in Masaki. Just made my total sum of living. 4200$. Family of 4, guards, cleaning lady, car, pool guy. Rent is 2500$. This area is expensive, but living here is also good for business. I am no expat. We decided to live here and live and work with the people to make a better life for everyone. Many people, when they see a muzungu, will try to make more money on you. You could add that to the list of bills 😀 Life definitely is different here and I was surprised the cost of living is so high. We started making a lot of things ourselves. Most imported goods are 4 to 5 times higher then we were used to. Only thing cheap here is labour. Inflation is also rising.

If you go west into the city prices drop significantly so does the quality of live however. I am able to rent a 2 bedroom house in Sinza for 150 USD a month and it's about 15 min from the coast. Thanks for sharing your experience of cost of living in Dar es Salaam, nice presentation, well done. I had heard from a colleague (whose husband is from there) that I could live over there for around £300 per month including everything such as rental flat, food, utility bills but your calculation is almost 3 times more than her. So I was thinking to live over there for a few months of winter to reduce the crazy utility bills in Europe however your video told me otherwise, so I may think about some other places such as India. Also it would be good to explain how long a British passport can stay there or whether we need a visa or not. Is it possible to rent a room from a local resident in order to reduce the cost of living? Is there any British or European banks over there and what is the best way of paying bills or currency exchange. Would you categorise the country as a safe place to live for a few months during the winter months? Thank you again

That is if you really stay at apartments or condominiums. If you stay at low cost housing, it will be cheaper esp. if you eat at low cost restaurant or food stalls. Spending $700+ a month is still way more expensive... in my country, spending money like that is considered living in luxury. That amount of money is for people who live in 1st world countries. Like us in the third world, we will choose wisely because we don't earn as much.

This video is accurate if you want to spend 700-1000€ a month. However, it depends where you live and shop. You can live way cheaper too. So food/drinks at 5star hotels/restaurants will cost 20,000 TZS (10€) per person. Or even more, just like in Europe. But if you go eat Grilled Chicken with Chips, or 1 big Kebab at a normal restaurant it will cost you only 8,000 TZS (3€). You can even go to the local places and get Rice, Beans and Spinach for 3000 TZS (1.30€) Same for shopping. If you go to a Supermarket you will see expensive stuff that has been imported from Europe etc. But if you go buy from the local market you'll pay 50% less. Get your veggies and fruits from there. Not from the supermarket. Taxi is also very expensive. 15,000 TZS per 7KM I think. Maybe more nowadays. UBER ride is 30% or 40% cheaper. There is also TUKTUK which costs x3 less than Taxi I mean who goes to Tanzania to not experience something new? It doesn't matter how much money you have, don't be so boring.

sorry, you said, you dont pay a price of rent.. bcs you are employer and your company pay it .. I have rented a house in the suburbs, it has a large living room, kitchen, 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms with toilets. The water is free as it is from a local drilled source. I pay a monthly rent of 350,000 TSh, that's about 120 Pounds or about 140 USD in your conversion. If I were to live by your extremely expensive purchases, by the way I go to the local markets to buy basic groceries, to local street restaurants.. and I only need 7 USD a day and live well and healthy. So I don't have to earn at least TSh 5,000,000 a month.

Hello, May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Also, can I share Isaiah 53:5 " But HE was WOUNDED For our TRANSGRESSIONS, he was BRUISED for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His STRIPES we are HEALED." God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin.Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people & went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today and please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?
