Spoiler alert: In the comics Karen's story is three times as dark as soon in this show and bullseye kills Karen in the church. The last shot of the episode was in reverse with daredevil lying over Karen dead body.

I think that Matt, Foggy and most street level heroes were snapped until the blip leaving Karen to fend for herself she probably even made a life for herself during some of those years only to meet Kingpin's wrath again qith him out of prison because Matt is no longer there to threaten Vanessa. As revenge Fisk kills everyone left that she loves perhaps even a small family of her own and pumps her full of drugs so she becomes a junkie like in the comics I would not be surprised if that's the very dark route they take with the character since doing such a thing is right up Fisk's alley anyway.

Once you see Karen's backstory, you look back on the previous seasons and see her motivations in a whole new way. She's trying so hard to make up for her mistakes by doing the right things and she's even willing to give her life here to make sure everyone in that church gets out. Get ready for the next few episodes, shit is gonna get crazy.

The reason why Matt can’t do much is because Bullseye has the DD suit so even tho Matt is a better fighter that body armor can protect from a knife in the red and bulletproof in the black spots so he can’t do much in h2h and the DD suit in the knuckles has something that helps to make more damage so when Bullseye hits him it hurts even more, Matt has his pajamas so he doesn’t have any protection.

@@StanvilleBrown I don’t think it could’ve worked. At this point people think Matt is a murder, no one would trust him, on top of that at this point Dex didn’t had his adamantium spine that makes him even more durable and dangerous because he doesn’t feel pain, so Matt having a suit too then he wouldn’t need to dodge and it wouldn’t have worked.

@@bloodymares Not every hit can be thrown to the jaw, Dex will dodge them, he did hit him in the jaw multiple times but still it isn’t enough because how much more damage Dex can do to Matt being fully exposed.

Fr. Lantom actually stepped in front of Dex’s projectile… Karen had just closed her eyes waiting to get struck down, and when she opened them, the Father was there taking the hit.

Like you said, 'This is ELITE television!' and I definitely agree! Bullseye is not to be trifled with and, like the comics,our hero is having to battle him without having the suit himself! Enjoying re-watching this with you guys, may all storytelling of our comic heroes be at this level, Daredevil has set the bar pretty high.

From here each episode gets better until the end. All 3 are incredible. There is a slightly meta switch-up for fans of the comics in this episode as well - Dex killing Father Lantom is a reverse of the comics where he instead kills Karen. The last frame of the episode is reverse where it was instead Matt holding Karen's dead body

Totally agree with Steph about this feeling like prestige television (HBO, etc.) and that they prioritized story and character over whatever it is the Disney+ MCU shows prioritize. Daredevil is just really great television.

MCU shows prioritise fanservice and hype first and foremost. Because it seems current execs believe that more hype = more money, regardless of quality. But considering the box office failures (for Marvel standards) as of late, people are getting tired from this approach.

The suit gives bullseye some crazy durability the suit is very bulletproof and strong. Also Matt is in normal clothes with not much padding and Matt is still not at full strength even after the building collapsed on him.

The extended flashback does two things: it makes you think that she will die. Usually, they make you like a character right when they are about to kill them off. And 2) In past, Karen has been an aggravating character for many, mainly due to bad writing. She is like Barry from The Flash or Rose from Titanic, where they do stupid things so the story can go a certain way. But, this episode and this season has made her poor decision-making part of the character. They've canonized it. Even her dad said "it's what you do, Karen" a few episodes ago.

At the end of the day, Karen is a deeply flawed person. She has regrets, she has blood on her hands, and her addiction and poor choices led to her brothers death. But even after all of that, she is still able to face certain death on multiple occasions, and not only fight back, but win. With help from her friends, sure. But she is a incredible written protagonist that truly defines the reality of the world this show builds. These people may be heroes, but they’re not perfect. They’ve all done awful things. What matters is how they fight against the very things they either were, or almost became.

@shedrach onah Disney also made Netflix Daredevil. You mean Marvel Studios. That's literally the only difference in who is producing the series. Disney bought Marvel in 2012. This included Marvel Television.

That's why I said to wait and watch. Karen's dad seemed like a dick earlier on the phone call, but this episode shows exactly why he did what he did. Karen was his daughter, but he lost his wife and the son he loved because of bad choices of Karen. His wail over his son's dead body would wreck anyone emotionally.

I agree that Marvel shows/most of the movies are more kid-oriented nowadays, and in order to elevate in terms of quality, there needs to be some projects that have this more mature tone that Daredevil has.

I guess if the suit cab protect from knife slashes it can preety much help against punches. Thats why dex didnt recieve much damage from Matt even though matt is a better hand to gand fighter. If the suit helped Dex survive that fall without injuries it can probably help with punches as well.

This episode always reminded me of Kerens lowest point in the comics, in the daredevil series written by Kevin Smith where she gives Matt's identity as daredevil to some drug dealer for like a hit heroin, who then went and told kingpin...

I binge watched them when it came out and I did like the episode. Is it a top 5? Of course not because this show has a lot of amazing episodes but it’s not a bad episode, it still had great acting, cinematography, writing, score, story, dialogue, it’s probably the weakest or one of the weakest but like I say it’s because there’s too many amazing episodes, but this one is still a 8.5/10 for me.

But even if you binge it, it's only confusing for the first several minutes. The second half picks up right where it left off, and the following action sequence is probably the fourth best this season (after the one-take, the final battle, and the Bulletin fight).

First time I watched this episode I didn’t like the backstory at the start, mostly cause I wanted to get into the rest of the season and felt it slowed down the pace. But when rewatching I really appreciate the episode. Definitely shed a couple tears when Kevin and Father Lantom died

This is why I'm nervous about the reboot for Disney. I understand wanting to try to fit daredevil into the established marvel universe somehow but frankly I think the Netflix show setup things to crossover well by mentioning events in the story but keeping it vague because of copyright issues like saying the guy with the hammer or the guy with the iron suit etc but also keeping things street level and contained in a city. I think they'd be in a way better position if they hired or contracted out all the people responsible for making the Netflix show what it was main people from the writing team etc. And frankly keeping it more gritty especially since we now know the punisher is in the mix, I just don't see how you do his character and it not be rated R. I think the Netflix shows did an excellent job of showing the violence but not over top or gratuitous it was used where it was needed and there wasn't even much cursing because it wasn't necessary. I'm trying to stay optimistic but it's extremely difficult cuz I just don't see how they are going to satisfy most people who were fans of this show and marry it with fans of the comics all while fitting it into their marvel universe, I think unfortunately we aren't going to see the level of writing and caliber of the Netflix series again.

I consider Daredevil (and to some smaller extent, Jessica Jones, and the Punisher) to be Marvel’s version of prestige shows. They weren’t burdened by the expectations of keeping with a specific tone and tenure and they had the funding to explore real character depth. I hope someday Marvel comes back to that. Its not like they aren’t capable, we’ve seen them do it in the MCU before. They just have to be willing to subvert fan expectations.

Yeah, I agree, Daredevil and Punisher are Marvel Netflix originals made for adults with intense storylines and deep character arcs. While Disney Marvels are family shows with comical plots and limited character depth. Can't wait for you guys' reaction to the Punisher Series.

I really thought Karen would die this episode after the backstory and seeing the fight happening in the church. I remembered the shot from the comic book of Matt holding Karen when she died and so thought they would recreate it.

I agree, they go the entire season never even saying anything in reference to a bullseye. And even though we knew he was coming, in the comics no one knows who he is. The only nod comes at the end and you can see them holding off introducing him until a second season because the rest of Marvel has to introduce a few things. But what is good about this episode in this season is that it seems to get Matt out of his funk and the team gets more together (though Karen and Foggy spend more of the season finale just fretting).

You wanna know what has me the most worried about Daredevil: Born Again? The writers they hired for the series are writers for CW shows. For Daredevil to go from this level of quality to CW quality? We may be witnessing the death of Daredevil.

You're going to have to come to terms with the idea that the next Daredevil show will be different than the previous one. If you spend the next 18 months pining away for the old one, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. It's a bit like being mad that your new girlfriend isn't the same as your ex.

@@bloodymares All but one of the shows they (the two writers that typically work together) wrote for were all poorly reviewed shows that never made it past their first seasons. For CW, it was a show called “Containment.” Their biggest credit is a show called “Covert Affairs,” also poorly reviewed, but lasted 5 seasons. And the poorly reviewed Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito Christmas movie “Deck The Halls.”

probably not Achara said she watched like 2 or 3 episodes and couldn't finish it, I don't really blame her it was the worst show out of all the netflix marvel shows. She watched Jessica Jones and loved it, I can't recall if she watched Luke Cage but she said she liked him okay. The only reason they watched the Defenders was because they needed to in order to watch Daredevil season 3 for it to make sense.

It's really sad the netflix shows ended after this because I would've loved to see the transformation of the actor into that role and how they would have done it as they actually made him very complex and compelling for a villain. It's hard to make somebody feel bad for a psychopath but they manage to do that in this show, I would've loved to see where they would have taken a fourth season of this show.

Karen was under influence while driving the car, it was her bad decisions that led to the death of her brother and you guys are still feeling bad for Karen and think her father's anger is not justified? Common sense where?

Karen is a bad person because of the choices she made and she did kill her brother those are facts. And no, some people actually don't make really bad life choices. Karen in the comic was far worse than the TV series. Bullseye made Daredevil a better hero and character in the Marvel universe.

This episode is basically the reason season 4 is gonna suck. You know why, because Karen actually has flaws, and makes mistakes. Literally every show, and movie produced by Disney now, the women are always perfect, and all of men are either jerks, or bad guys.

Flashbacks are fine. BUT TO SPEND AN ENTIRE EPISODE ON FUCKING KAREN is ridiculous! All the momentum from the previous episode just stopped to spend an episode all about her. 🙄
