DIY Vanbuild #21: Four season van insulated with 3M Thinsulate SM600L
To be a true Four Season Van insulation is key, we are using a top of the line product and spray gluing our SM600L 3M Thinsulate to our walls and ceiling of the ROAMR. We have discussed the importance of the right tools in the past, and even just a simple pair of scissors can slow progress to a halt. This step is helping our tiny home on wheels get one step closer to become a true 4 season 4X4 Overland Roaming home.
Check out the video and let me know what you think in the comments, maybe even hit that subscribe and follow along.
Thanks for Watching! See you next Sunday.

Excellent video! Now I know how important a good pair of scissors is for a job like this. Tangentially, it took me a while to figure out who your voice/accent reminded me of, but I finally got it. Johnny Harris, the guy who plays Constable Crabtree on Murdoch Mysteries. I will probably think of you as Constable Dares from now on. Hope that's okay with you! 🤣😂😆

@RedBatteryHead

When you use wool as it is supposed to it won't absorb water. You need a anti damp foil. With this thinsulate it won't absorb itself. The walls will however and condens in between the both. So again a foil is required too.

It's only open cell spray foam that absorbs water, closed cell spray foam is what's needed as it hardens all the way through.

PU foam does NOT absorb water - there's two types and you need to get the closed cell type; you've confused open cell. PU foam you have to also apply properly, it expands, if it has nowhere to go it will push outward. If you do it right it stops rattling and it's perfect. Case in point, PU foam is used for boats - sometimes as part of the hull (double hulling, fiberglass - pu foam - more fiberglass, this works against osmosis which has everything to do with water saturation, if it absorbed water, this would be bad. The only legitimate reason not to use PU foam on a van built is the option to undo the campervan conversion, PU foam you will not be able to remove so if you ever intend to sell the van as a non-campervan.
@AB-nb2ic
@AB-nb2ic 2 жыл бұрын
All facts. As you said, it all comes down to open cell foam vs. closed cell foam. And if you don't over do it, you won't get ripples in the body panels.

No way am I drilling two big holes where you cut them. That will decrease the horizontal strength of that beam by over half. Which beam was that? You jerked the camera around so much I can’t tell no matter how many tines I replay. When the camera is mounted on the selfie stick it jerks it around the background too fast.

Same exact concept, and this is made for automotive. So yes, for a van. The whole purpose is insulation to prevent extreme temperatures from affecting the cabin of the van. It’s perfectly fine and encouraged to use on a van or even a car to enhance interior sound quality, block out road noise and insulate the cabin to keep it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

I’d have to be a speed reader extraordinaire to read those responses about what you should do first wire or insulate. I’m pretty sure I learned in filmmaking 101 how long to leave up words and it was so many seconds per word. You gave us about a 10th of a second per paragraph. I wanted to read the comments but obviously you didn’t want us to read them because you were going to do it your way regardless. What happened to you do you? I’m trying to do me.
