Jewish Holocaust survivor, Dario Gabbai, was born in Salonika, Greece in 1922. Dario survived the Auschwitz II-Birkenau death camp, Ebensee concentration camp, Haidari concentration camp, Mauthausen concentration camp, Melk concentration camp, and a death march. He was interviewed by USC Shoah Foundation in 1996.

The film traces the compelling experiences of five Hungarian Holocaust survivors who fell victim to Adolf Hitler’s brutal war against the Jews during the final days of World War II. It shares the remarkable stories of five people - a grandmother, a teacher, a businessman, an artist, and a U.S. congressman - as they return from the United States to their hometowns and to the ghettos and concentration camps that once imprisoned them.
Through the eyes of the survivors and other witnesses, including a former Nazi doctor at Auschwitz, "The Last Days" recounts one of the most brutal chapters of human history. But above all, "The Last Days" is a potent depiction of personal strength and courage, and a testament to the power of the human spirit.

Mr Gabbai lived until March 2020. He was such a lovely, gentle, sweet man. The horrors he witnessed and endured are more than most could have survived. He would have be right to hate, but he chose to love. He was loved and respected for his dignity. I have seen this interview many times, and many additional interviews to watch and read. I would encourage all who see this to search for more on this very special man. May his memory be a blessing.

His was the most detailed, and I am sure the truest account of what he went through and saw, and forced to do, throughout his grueling time as a Holocaust prisoner. Bless his time and long life he was able to survive and live as a free man. May his soul rest in peace.

it really is as society tries to whitewash over it sanitizing the horror of the time by blurring and banning sharing or viewing of it. no wonder we keep doing it people do not see really see what happens and listen to any teen killer almost every one regrets it after seeing it it aint hollywood

He mentioned Otto Moll at 48:00 this man was a monster inmates called him cyclops because he had a glass eye. At least his victims got justice in the end he showed up at Dachau one day before the camp was liberated. He was convicted at the Dachau trails and hanged in 1946.

He was hanged at Landsberg prison in 1952 and is buried there in an unmarked grave.

I understand the need to document details of this atrocity but is so painful to hear “let’s take you back and step by step” repeated. The interviewer is so incredibly invasive and pushing on an incredible trauma. This man I have no words for the strength and humanity he was able to hold on too 😮 ❤

Kelly, I do understand what you’re saying, but remember why these interviews were made. They were made for future generations to hear the reality of what happened. Fact, and the documents recovered support Mr Gabbai’s memory, that cause emotional response now will be imperative once there are no survivors left. Many of these witnesses said little-or-nothing for decades, although wanting to tell their realities. These same people understand the tremendous importance their testimonies have, and will have, as more generations come and go.

His elder brother Yaacov is interviewed in Gideon Greif's book "Wir weinten tränenlos.." This contains interviews with Sonderkommando survivors. At the time of that interview, younger brother Dario still could not speak about the past. It takes immense courage to decide to speak out, finally, so late in his life, in this interview.

Im Greek Italian, and I just found out after my DNA test, that I have Askenazy , And Mishrahi Jewish line of relatives the 1800 from Spain and Eastern Europe. I can't describe how I feel right now about this man's life experience. He is a survivor ... Im sorry he had to go through this hell. No one in this world must go through this kind of tragic experience. Very soon God will stop suffering....

I want to thank you for sharing your story. I read many holocaust survivor stories. I will never understand what kind of human beings could do this to human beings. These people they had their small possessions, their dignity everything was taken from them just to be cast down. Why I ask myself why Well God knows thank you for your story

56:40 Putting women who had more fat on the outside than men, to burn the bones....... that does'nt sound right? More body weight means more fluid does'nt it? Fluid here being water. I am missing something here? Can anyone help here please?

Another man who also gave his testimony said the woman would always be placed in the middle. They had more body fat which helped the fire continue.

@@sabreecarpenter4285 Someone told me that these were not industrial furnaces as cremating more than one body was not allowed, as is the case today. How did that work with four if there is only one metal stretcher on wheels to put them in at 1500 degree F?
