One of the best concerts I have ever seen....the brutality and the raw vibe of Dark angel is impossible to capture slayer or other bands back in the days...Darkness descends is the most chaotic thrash metal album of all time... can't wait till play it entirely in 11 July for first time in Hellas ( Greece).

The 80's were a drug fueled hell for me, but being there for this music as it was rising gave me a reason to live. What a time, what a time.

I saw them twice in 1985. Once with Slayer at Reseda Country Club, and another show at some tiny, gutted out plane hangar (?) in Van Nuys, Ca. The 2nd show was absolutely BRUTAL. Stage was only about a foot high. Literally wall to wall moshing the ENTIRE time, and I mean getting hit with clenched fists while being pummeled by stage divers. Completely immersed. Most insane pit I’ve ever been in. My friend had to go outside. He couldn’t hang. 😂

In the mid-80s I saw Exodus, Possessed, D.R.I. and Death Angel live. Dark Angel was advertised but they didn't play that night. I finally went to see them at Fenders in 1987 but it wasn't Don Doty on vocals. Instead it was the other guy. Sucks I never got to see the only vocalist whoever mattered fronting Dark Angel.

This was when Gene was still working on the vocal arrangements of the new songs. Don sings the same verse 4 times on Death is Certain and skips the entire first section of the lyrics. I remember soon after this they started playing Black Prophecies live without lyrics. Ended up being a masterpiece of song writing. Good times.

Saw them in late 80's at the Stone in SF, Darkness Descends tour & then few years later at The Cactus club. Got a signed Live Scars poster from the Cactus Club show. Darkness Descends is a masterpiece classic. The lyrics are so fucking well written, I remember reading them from the LP( which I still have)over and over again. Death is Certain, Black Prophecies,Hunger Of the Undead are my favorites. Darkness Descends goes in the top 20 all time best metal albums, maybe even in the top 10. Anyone who says otherwise is prob too young to know how epic this was in it's time or is just a douchebag and deserves to Perish In Flames!!

I used to listen to heavy metal radio show back in the '80s called Midnight Metal. It aired on a radio station based out of New Rochelle, NY. Six hours of heavy metal music every Saturday night! Anyway, Gene Hoglan came in for an interview in the Spring of 1987 (about six months after Darkness Descends came out). Gene said there had been misprint on the Darkness Descends album jacket. The instrumental intro Darkness Descends was actually supposed to listed as a separate track called "Harbinger Of Doom".

Don Doty is God and a vocal inspiration as well...Him and Bill from Cryptic Slaughter....and Silenius from Abigor....

Rob Yahn on bass too, you can tell besides the long blonde hair by his playing style, Gonzales uses a pick, where Yahn played with his fingers

I saw Dark Angel at the Stone in San Francisco in 86, I think Vio-lence opened, and it will forever go down in my memory as one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Hung out with Gene and the band for like, an hour after the show, went into a tiny store by the Stone and watched Gene buy all of their pirogies, he offered me one but I hadn’t ever had one and I’m sad that I didn’t take one bc damn they’re delicious

And they still play the same 12 songs. Love DA but it’s time for some new good material. There are bands from the same era that pump out new material that is killer like Flotsam and Destruction. Yet DA is that dark horse that every one clings to.
