I just finished this book last week! I completely agree with you. It was DEFINITELY worth the hype! I found it to be intense and captivating! And just when I thought the twist and turns were over Crouch blew me away with yet another unexpected turn of events. SO GOOD!!

This book was one of my favorites. I gave it a five stars. Really unique story that was executed in a way that made science fiction accessible than most other books.

DO IT! It's SO GOOD. It's challenging at times because it is pretty science heavy, but so worth it!

Yessss I loved Dark Matter as well! I thought it went pretty technical into the science side of things, but it was so fascinating. Lovely review!

It really was pretty technical! But I love that it felt like almost non fiction because there was so much science packed in. Thanks : )

I loved this book when I read it last year. I'm fascinated by the idea of parallel universes. Another great read on that topic is the YA book Relativity by Cristin Bishara. It's about a girl who finds a tree that is like a portal or wormhole to other parallel universes.

I agree that the science and science fiction elements of the story are what kept me interested enough finish the book, but it was a close call. the author kept teasing these other interesting places, but there was not a lot of exploration. Otherwise, I could not disagree with you more. I found the protagonist to be whiny and pretty dumb. He has no agency and really never takes any action to help himself or to effect the story or plot. He makes one clever decision in the police station and that was it. The Mystery was pretty shallow, but that may be because I read so much sci fi. I figured out what had happened immediately and the 'genius' main character takes a frustratingly long time to get there. The "romance" was weak as there is virtually no time the establish the relationship with his wife before he is taken. The only way we know he is a genius and that his wife is awesome is because we are told those things, not because it is ever demonstrated those traits within the story. Reasonable minds can disagree.

Read Bob Shaw's Two-Timers (1968) so you can see how there's too many similarities with the plot.
