For me, this song feels like introverts with social anxiety + depression in romantic relationships. They feel like they aren't worth the affection they receive to the point they believe they're being played sometimes, but do nothing about it because they're too scared. They go on to think about all the things that could go wrong in their relationships: their lover getting bored or sick of them, their habits getting in the way of the relationship, feeling like they aren't doing enough, or- god forbid- their relationship falling apart so quietly, a breakup isn't even spoken- they're just... abandoned.

This song feels like my current friendship. Sure, it has a romanticized vibe to it, but when you look a little closer it’s actually very a paranoid feeling. He and I have been in some toxic relationships, so we know what it’s like to lose someone we care about. That’s what brought us together in the first place. We’re so close, but also nervous because we’ve never had a perfect friendship with anyone. It feels like one day I’ll wake up, and we never even met. Or that he’s just using me like they were. If soulmates are real, then he is mine, but that’s what I’m worried about. No one has ever been perfect for me, so I’m skeptical. Thanks for reading this far I guess.
