I'm a jazz aficionado, and I couldn't agree more with you. It's the fact that producers always use these easy listening jazz chords which is such a ridiculously small slice of Jazz. Jazz is hard, pushing the boundaries harmonically and rhythmically particularly when you get to players like Archie Shepp, early Pharoah Sanders, Cecil Taylor, Mingus, all the way to todays experimentalists like Nik Bartch's Ronin, check out also the whole long intro of Eberhard Weber's Death In A Car Wash. Also check out some John Zorn's rougher material. Bill Frisell's first album has a song called The Beach (very dreary and wonderful)
