Drugs, guns, counterfeit documents, and much more are sold on dark web marketplaces that run on anonymous browsers and use cryptocurrency. AlphaBay was the most significant marketplace, transacting over US$800,000 a day, enabling its founder to live a luxurious lifestyle in anonymity until international law enforcement caught up with him. Alphabay was shut down in 2017. In August 2021, there were reports that the website was online again.

Sextortion was invented by one woman in the Philippines, Maria Caparas. She turned the idea of making friends online and recording explicit video chats into a profitable blackmail and extortion scam that could not exist without social media. She now runs a mini-empire seemingly beyond the reach of authorities, which has led to many suicides.

It was one of 640 million closed groups on Facebook. Hiding behind anonymity, the creator of the child pornography group Loli Candy and its 7,000 members hid their activities on Facebook and WhatsApp - the dissemination of horrifying images of abuse. I'm 24 and although I live in another city and work in construction, my Mom makes me send her my credit card statements because she doesn't want me to buy useless things and my Internet is monitored, I can't even have Netflix. I'm from a Korean family. She controls a lot of my life, unfortunately, and as the oldest I have to look after her. I have told her she's kind of interfering, but I agree that parents need to really talk to their adult and minor children about the dangers of the Internet, teens getting into their friends' cars as there can be distractions while driving, meeting people in person, leaving your drinks alone opening a window for someone to spike them, not honking your car horn, saying thank you when someone hodor for you, etc. Yes, there have been lives taken because the suspects didn't receive a thank you! I have a niece and I couldn't believe I acted like my Mom when I found out she had a lot of social media accounts and 'friends.' No 13 year old has 1200+ followers on Instagram and Facebook.

@ENDEVRDocs I agree to an extent but at some point you need to let your children grow up, make mistakes & learn from them. If u don't, when mom & dad inevitably leave this earth, your children will be screwed bc u didn't give them the tools to live their lives bc u were too busy hovering over them all the time. For many kids who've lived life like that, once they finally DO get their freedom, its even more dangerous bc they go overboard. It's a fine line❤️

I disagree, an addicts inability to ask for help comes from their own choices they made. Not from outside influences. Allowing drugs to be sold more freely would only increase profits for drug dealers because the total addressable market would get bigger. We should be focusing on stopping drug consumption as a whole.

Tried to treat this as a podcast to listen to as I did my work, but there's so much unvoiced text on screen for ~aesthetic~, doing so is functionally impossible. My friends, I get we want vibes, but a good chunk of your audience is likely some combination of working poor, has ADHD, has other obligations they need to address, or has some visual impairment. This video us over 3 hours long. Just plan your production better.... Consider your audience behavior when drafting the outline.... At the very least, capitalize on your work. Check your analytics for audience view time and habits. I have a hard time believing they watch for 3 hours straight with no drop off. Split it in half and game the algorithm with well-spaced uploads. Like honestly, you're not Hbomberguy, you've not got the charisma or cadence to ensnare an audience for this length of time. Especially not with this silent "narrator." Yikes. Probably an interesting topic. I'll never know, though. Onto the next video on my work playlist.

@@thehighlander1945 I mean, I never say no to money... but my passion in this is honestly just because I worked at a local news station for four years, and their understanding of digital media was abysmal. Tangent time... Part of my job was looking at analytics, and they would never listen to my findings. We had two other local stations as competitors, and the newspaper (owned by the same family as our station, but we operated independently). Our digital stats were consistently ranked third, below the newspaper and one station which actually utilizes their YT channel. But they always tried to spin it like they were #1 in digital presence. But while our reporter was the only one on scene at an incident which got national coverage, do you know whose "footage" Philip Defranco used when covering it? Not ours. Because obviously, his team found the coverage by the station with a digital presence, who got video from a bystander. And that's no shade to the PDS. It was our complete failure to optimize our platform and consider how to effectively build up our digital presence which made and SEO that made it unlikely for anyone outside the region to find our articles and videos. Objectively, our reporting was consistently better, but our station's refusal to consider audience behavior and platform optimization is going to sink them in the end. And it pisses me off, because our reporters are good. The effort they put into their packages was wasted because of a lack of interest in online platforms. I've seen other documentaries from this channel, and they're much more conscientious of their platform and audience. It's generally good stuff. The utter failure of this documentary to consider its audience annoys the heck outta me tho. Truly, it seems like it has good info, which is failed by the production. Like, even if this was for television, around 14% of the global population in 2020 had some level of vision loss, over 4% of whom had moderate to severe impairment or total blindness. That's over a billion people automatically cut from the potential viewership pool. Why would anyone do that? 🤦
