I sort of met Harley Race many years ago at a western nightclub that put on a wrestling show. On the card was Dan Severn and King Mabel. The rest were jobbers. Harley didn’t wrestle. He was just there to make an appearance. After the show Dan Severn did a meet and greet with fans while Harley sat in the back with the club owner drinking and avoiding the crowd. Harley wasn’t part of the meet and greet but I walked over to his table and politely asked for his autograph. He didn’t say a word. But he gave me an autograph and I thanked him and walked away. After seeing me approach him, other fans started going up to him asking for autographs too. Looking back I think he was annoyed but I was a little kid and didn’t realize he probably didn’t wanna be hassled by fans. Anyway that night I met Harley Race and Dan “The Beast” Severn. Dan Severn was very nice btw. He actually gave me a free autograph because I didn’t have enough money.

How much was Dan Severn charging for autographs? Harley Race wasn't charging for autographs but Dan Severn was. What's wrong with this picture? LOL.

@@user-kt4cx6cm7n It was a long time ago so I don’t exactly remember what Dan was charging. But I think it was like 10 or 20 bucks for an autographed photo. Harley Race wasn’t part of the meet n greet. He was sitting in the back of the place drinking with the owner. He just made an appearance that night but didn’t intend to interact with fans. But I walked up to him and asked him for an autograph and he gave me one just to be nice I assume. But he was probably annoyed as he didn’t smile or say anything.

@@shadowman2192 I think it's ridiculous Dan would charge for an autograph for anyone. Harley Race is much more famous and Dan Severn will never be a Harley Race. Harley was the real deal. He didn't take anything off anyone at any time. He liked to fight. There's not many like him left. Thanks for sharing your experiences I appreciate it my friend. I met Fritz, Kevin, David, Kerry Von Erich at Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas back in the late 70's. Mike and Chris were there too. My two brothers and I had an open court with all the Von Erich family. I can remember realizing my entire body wasn't as big as Kevin's leg. 😂 They were HUGE! I have fond memories of the Von Erichs but as an adult I see how Fritz (Jack) pushed his sons way too far. Very sad.

@@shadowman2192 Maybe Harley was having a bad day or feeling down at that time. Man oh man. I hate he didn't even smile or acknowledge you. I'm sure it wasn't anything personal. However, I've met certain celebrities in person and they've been exactly opposite to what they portray themselves to be. Ugh. I don't think Harley Race would fit in that category though. I just got a bad vibe from Fritz Von Erich - even as a 7 year old kid. He seemed almost evil and ALL his sons seemed terrified of him. Fritz was my favorite until I met him in person. Bruiser Brody was REALLY scary but he didn't put off that evil vibe like Fritz Von Erich did.

@@user-kt4cx6cm7n Well it was small venue and Dan was the main babyface that night. He may have never risen above mid-card status but it was still cool to see him and he was a real nice guy. He signed autographs, shook hands and took pictures with fans. It’s awesome you got to meet the Von Erich’s! I’m a huge fan of the Von Erich brothers. Gonna see the movie soon.

The story about Mike Awesome is tragic. I feel extra connected to it because I’ve gone through a nearly identical situation, but have been fighting my way out. People really do not understand what it’s like to be a man in that situation, it’s utterly soul crushing. And far too many women get to walk off into the sunset scoff free.

Mike Graham came to visit my elementary school in Tampa in '73 or '74. It was after he and Paul Jones had split, and I think he had just teamed up with Steve Kiern. He was one of my favorite faces then, and was mandatory Saturday morning viewing for me. Good memories, but such a tragic outcome.

I remember the Opie and Anthony show but, they tried to go 100 days without a dead wrestler and I think it took like 3 yrs. The bit was called the wrestler death clock. There is some comedy so it's not all sad, in fact I stop this to check it out again. Then came back to edit and correct the amount of days and finish this.

Did one of kamala last indy shows back in i belive 2012 i dont know was a while ago and not to long after he really started to have problems with his illness. Kamala was a very cool guy remember i didnt know him just did show with him amd we spoke for a while but very funny guy. I was a manager and i remember i was outside ring on floor selling and he had my fadora and as i am laying down selling he puts my hat on and grabs a mic and starts singing... i was shocked that he did that in ring but remeber he was at very end of his career and was having fun and thats what its about. He was a good singer to. As a kid i never would have thought that he could sing.... very funny... was a decent show .. not a big crowd from what i remember maybe 700 i could be wrong on exact amount of people but somewhere in that ballpark.. i would have to look through stuff to know for sure.. Some shows blend together in my memory over years but he was cool from what i seen... polite , nice and very easy to work with...
