Built in Retro style in 1999, the theater has hints of Hollywood all around the huge building. Equipt with 24 screens and an IMAX theater, the cinema was a huge attraction and a palace for film. Unfortunately, up until 2019, the building wasn't selling out as many seats, and theaters began to sit empty more frequently. It was 2020, and the Pandemic that was the final chapter of this location. Closing initially for what was thought would he two weeks, but never reopened again. This cinema is forever trapped in the world right before the Pandemic inside a retro shell. I loved this place and feeling it's almost spaceship design while roaming its concourse, hopefully you do enjoy as well!
Let me know what you thought in the comments, and like the video to help support the channel !

A retro theater that almost resembles a space ship in areas. Very awesome design and also huge in size ! This location was the first movie theater to close in the USA permanently due to the Pandemic. Enjoy this cinema forever stuck in 2020!

A cool place. AMC opened where I lived in late 2017 they remodeled the theater and put recline chairs in as the movie theater had a few name changes, Rave was the first name from 2006-2012, the Alamo Draft House opened in 2013-2017. As said AMC in Downtown Kazoo did reopen after COVID in Oct of 2020 then closed for good in Dec of 2020, and remained closed for 3 years then reopened now called KP Cinema which is a local movie theater not national brand. Can still see the AMC label scare they finally took it off the second time I saw a movie at KP. AMC wanted to call it AMC Kalamazoo 10 one problem was that Goodrich already had the name since 1997 it's on my side of town I like the reclining chairs at Celebration & KP why I don't go to Kazoo 10. Goodrich was going to sue AMC they went with AMC Portage Road I think AMC Downtown would've been a better name.

its not run of the mill cinema, its an important piece of history. on uruguay we had 1930-1960 cinemas and most are demolished or recycled into something else (like scamming churches) our 90`s cinemas where on shopping malls that every 10 years are upgraded so they do look something like that cinema but updated to 2024 now.

2 decades worth of memories spent here. I had a really rough time growing up and would spend entire weekends here. Paying for one movie early in the AM and staying all day seeing everything that I could. Anything was better than being at home. I actually teared up watching this. It’s crazy to see how it is now but remember it as this sanctuary, my safe space.

Many reasons for that I'm sure. Not sure how AMCs are ran, but some people just felt like it was time to pull the plug on their business, or their part of a franchise, and felt 2020/2021 were time to make a change.

I used to work here for almost 4 years and worked my way up to manager and left in 2012. I knew every inch of that place. I wonder if the projection door code is the same lol. Lots of random rooms not shown but I assume cause they were locked. That room with the alarm was where the vault was. Oh that imax screen? It was redone and upgraded late 2019/early 2020. Reopened literally the weekend before everything shutdown. So it's barely used.

It's actually rather sad. The last day the theater was staffed was when covid was starting. They probably only expected to close for a few weeks and be back at work. I'm guessing everything at that point was closed like any other night so things would be ready to go upon reopening... However that day never came (yet anyway).

This is my home theater. I grew up seeing movies here and saw many many classics debut here. I was there on it's last days before covid, and during covid. I actually reopened around September and it was playing a mix of new and old releases since there wasn't much of any new movies coming out in theaters. They even revamped that Imax into Imax laser and it was only opened for a few weeks before they closed it. When it reoepned they were showing movies like Tenet and reshowing Alita Battle Angel in Dolby. It officially closed in November with the staff only having a few days notice. There werent many people going to the theater when it reopened, but I did my best to support my home theater. It breaks my heart to see the Dolby stripped, but Im so happy to see the "Changing the way the world sees movies" sign still up and clean. It was one of my favorite things to see whenever I went to that theater. Thank you for preserving it's image and exploring such an important building to me.

@@shrikantmahajan831 the landlord shut the theater down and even the mayor was trying to get the theater reopened but I guess no dice :( There we’re rumors of apartments being built but it’s an extremely inconvenient place for that. It was supposedly recently used to house immigrants for a night or so before being transferred in school busses. Now it’s still sitting there and there’s always a hired security car just sitting there to guard the property. They even smashed glass near the blocks to keep cars and bikes away from the building. I’m pissed about that because there’s geese that live there. It’s awful 😣 I hope it somehow someway reopens again…

Yes. I was in an abandoned movie theatre. It was a single one with a huge screen. It felt as if there were others in there but I knew I was by myself. I found a projector frame in the projector room. Must have been from the 30s or 40s. It was real heavy. I did smell popcorn in the lobby and I found a 35mm film in the projector room. It was about two feet long and had movie credits on it.

The lack of any vandalism was an instant give away the location was tightly monitored either by video or motion detectors. Plus, the exterior must be kept in good shape since there is no outside environmental damage from water. I read elsewhere it was closed to due to a lease issue. That's hard to believe, since this is a standalone theater plex, and not a part of a shopping center or mall. So, this location - building, and property - has to be owned by AMC. The pristine condition - after four years - almost makes me wonder if AMC would consider reopening it or sell it to another theater chain. But due to the recent strikes in Hollywood, and another one in August (teamsters) the output of films is a serious problem for chain operators. Hard to operate a theater without any movies. There won't be a lot of films forth coming later in 2024 and in 2025. If the property is being sold off for a possible residential complex, it's hard to believe AMC would spend money to keep the building - inside and outside - in pristine shape.

The last movie i went to see in The Midwood Theater was The Karate Kid. Which cost $1.50. In the 70s it went up a penny every year to match the new year. Even though it only played one move at a time. It was a great place to grow up. Yes move theaters today has changed the way we watch movies. A lot of people wait for them to come to their home.

I worked at AMC Deer Valley 16 in Antioch CA. I was there when it closed permanently in the summer of 2019. It happened suddenly, with no explanation. The final days were very sad. I was there as everything was being moved out to be used at other lactations. I took a few of the display movie posters for keepsakes. Watching this video reminded me of how haunting it is to walk through the empty areas that were once filled with the chatter of guests and concessions ambience. The sound of movies playing filling the auditorium corridors and the smell of cheap popcorn. The strange thing about that closure is plans were in place for the building to be renovated.

holy moly this is the movie theater i used to go to as a kid. my grandparents lived in the town this is in and took me and my sisters there all of the time. sad to see it closed down as i didn't even know it did since i started going to a regal closer to me. thanks for documenting it though! it's nice to see it still mostly intact.

Man, the temptation to try and power that place up and seeing what we could watch would be too much. I've always wanted to play video games on a movie theatre screen if that were possible.
@lemixlemon

It is possible to play video games on a movie theater screen, but if its an xbox system, it does not work correctly. If its a playstation system, the picture quality is ok and its not all glitchy. I worked at AMC back in 2011-2013, and they did employee lock in nights once a month. we would watch a movie on the big screen, have nerf gun fights, and then people can hook up a game system via hdmi if they brought one. the projectors had hdmi hookups. it was fun playing 4 player zombies on a big movie theater screen. but that was with a playstation 4 system, my xbox one looked like crap on a projector. the xbox system couldn't figure out how to properly adjust to the projectors resolution, but the ps4 was able to do it just fine.

I've gone to this one so many times when I was younger, and I love watching videos about exploring abandoned places, so seeing a place I used to frequent with friends and family not only be in a youtube video, but in an abandoned one nonetheless, is surreal, sad, but also bittersweet since I have so many fond memories, and am happy to see it living on. Thank you for the amazing video

This place looks exactly like the one I grew up going to with my best friend and their family. They would make a day trip of it. The theater is very distinct- exterior and interior. I remember walking these halls, sitting in these theaters, enjoying the courtyard, and so on. Wow memories flooding in.

This was my go to theatre growing up besides Destinta in Hamilton that is now a Regal. I loved this place so much. Would go every weekend with my friends, sometimes more than once depending on how many movies came out that week I wanted to watch. The best time! So sad to see it's just an empty space. They need to do something with it.

Ahhh Hamilton 24. The landlord refused to work wih amc after covid and hoping to turn the site into condos. After that somewhat failed they tried to run their own theaters. They then realized that there are no imax and dolby projectors and probably abandoned that plan too. Shame cause amc would probably remodeled it.

Incredible video, used to work for AMC as a projectionist many years ago but in the UK, worked for Showcase too. I do think cinemas are dead now, worldwide. Me and my husband worked in cinemas when we met and we both feel the pandemic just finished off the industry. I've said it before on here but your explores make me feel very nostalgic, they are amazing. It's also interesting to me as it's 24 screens, I only worked in 10 or 11 screen ones.

Ive been waiting so long for someone to do an explore of this theater!! I drive by it at least twice a week and always am tempted to go in and explore. I grew up going to this theater I always thought it was the coolest place in the world I was so sad when it closed. A little bit of lore that was never reported on which is also definitely a contributing factor to its closure; a few years before it closed they made a new rule that no one under 21 could see a movie after 7pm on a weekend without someone over 21 present. Not surprising why that would have a huge impact on their business. I always heard it was because there was a stabbing involving teenagers/gangs in the parking lot but that may have just been local gossip lol
