The first time I saw Morrigan was in Marvel VS Capcom. Her sprite changed me from a boy into a teenager.

This reminds me of how I wish Capcom would take a risk and reboot Darkstalkers, despite the weak sales of Darkstalkers: Resurrection. Come on Capcom, a random reboot of Kid Icarus worked for Nintendo, so why not give Demitri Maximoff and friends another chance!

this is perhaps the most underrated 2D fighting game franchise in North America. In my view vampire savior is easily one of the best 2D fighting games of all time.

I love how cartoony and fluid they make all the animations. I just gives it so much life and memorable charm. Couple that with the spot-on character designs and you've pretty much got me hooked immediately. It's kinda hard to find a character in this series that's not appealing in some way as opposed to SF which can be hit or miss occasionally for me -Laura-

Leaving crossovers aside (because usually, those require another company's approvement), you've Darkstalkers, Rival Schools, Star Gladiator, Powerstone, Red Earth, Cyberbots, Saturday Night Slam Masters and Tech Romancer

i remember back in the early 90s growing up in a small city dark stalkers was only for the rock and roll kids and sf was for the bboys and neighbourhood kids im glad we all came together as a comunity . its such a great game.

I'm sure there's an alternate world I live in where instead of Street Fighter V we had Darkstalkers V And I'd still be disappointed in it and go back to playing Darkstalkers: Third Spook

I love the music in this game and in Darkstalkers revenge, is probably the one thing i like more in the prior games, over Darkstalkers 3/Vampire Savior where the music felt more generic for exception of some few tracks.

I really dig this. I've heard of Darkstalkers but never really thought much about it until recently when I watched a MvsC2 upload provided by my favorite Dood :) Max is right. This game does have a charm all its own. Plus It's dubbed in Japanese which makes it all the more wonderful. Thanks for the upload. VERY enjoyable.

oh wow, this just came up on my recommends. It's been so long since I've seen this game. John, Raptor (Zabel), and Morrigan have always been some of my favorite characters from this series. And the music really brought me back. John and Felicia were probably my favorite stage themes as a kid.

Since ye asked -- You could hit an enemy who was knocked down with up+any kick in Nightwarriors (DS2), unsure about this one. Up+2 kicks for the super version. Some of the latter had special animations -- Demitri's made him dance on the enemy's back, take a bow, and backflip off. Chain/autocombos -- Again, this may apply only to NW and later, but all characters could use them in the "weak to strong" order (you can skip button presses, but NOT go back). You can chain a punch into a kick, but not vice versa. E.g. LP>MK>HK will work; LP>MK>HP will not. Morrigan's dashes - Try holding LK and then dash to fly (almost) straight up :) Bonus factoids -- Morrigan's Darkness Illusion (raging demon) move has a really short range in DS1, but it's *unblockable*, only in that version. In "collection" versions where her air fireball is QCF+P (instead of U, UF, F+P) this *may* not be the case. In DS2 and later, and possibly in DS1, her standing close HK (makes her spin like a pinwheel; you more or less need to overlap the enemy) will cancel into the DI.

Oh man this whole video gets me right in the nostalgia. The one and only arcade in my hometown had this game (well, Darkstalkers 2, I think). Merman was my absolute favorite character. Of course, back then I just mashed buttons and cool shit happened. Good ole days. Thanks Max for putting this together. Good times.

I first saw this arcade cabinet in a Wal-Mart in 1994. Felicia is why I kept playing, but I saw the attract mode, and it had a *kung-fu werewolf fighting a Frankenstein's monster,* and I was debating on if I could cram that arcade cabinet into my car and take it home.

This game completed 22 years in this year and Capcom doesn't give a single fuck about it.

As soon as I said that Pyron looks like Gill, Max says the same thing. I swear, we're like kindred brothers or something.

Having not played this game since I was a kid, didn't notice how much I started thinking that Pyron, at some point, is going to do the sonic boom and flash kick at some point.

2 things i wanted to do in this game as a kid: see everybody's burnt sprite, and everybody's chibi sprite from anakaris' projectile

Out of all of the really cool characters in this game, Max HAS to pick the fan service shoto character. Also, the in-game sprite for Pyron likes a lot like Guile, lol.

Only Zabel can hit you when you're down. Having meter buffs up damage on normals. The closer you are the stronger the damage from fireballs. Fireballs don't outright cancel each other out but use momentum in this game.

Ah, finally get to watch ya play some DarkStalkers. Darkstalkers was a rare one for me to find in the arcades but man its weirdness always dragged me in. I wish I grab one of its ports or import the PS2 collection version. Something so wonderfully surreal about these games that makes it so special and memorable. Need a DarkStalkers 3 or remake properly retelling the first two stories and a third in a set of arcade style campaigns. Just need more DarkStalkers sooo bad. Some of the best CPS2 music too, I so need to get cabinets of these games I need them in my living room lol.

I know it's basically a spookier version of Street Fighter 2 (or I guess Super Turbo because of the Super Meter), but I can easily find a lot of charm in not just this game, but the entire Darkstalkers series as well.

Fun Fact: Remilia from the fighting game "Touhou Hisouten ~ Scarlet Weather Rhapsody" has alot of moves taken from Demitiri. (And Sakuya has alot of moves taken from DIO from Jojo Biarzze Adventure : Heritage of the Future, another capcom fighter~ )

Another thing I enjoy the music in darkstalkers more than I do in street fighter the music makes me want to play this game.
